The American Sleep Apnea Association have a 'cpap assistance' programme that helps out those who have financial problems with purchasing CPAP equipment.

Equipment donations are very welcome.

How old is the PAP? How long have you had it? Most insurances rent a PAP for a specified amount of time (up to 13 months) before it is paid in full and becomes yours to use or dispose of as you see fit. Prior to the payoff time it is not yours to dispose of and you could end up paying the full price out of pocket.

NO - FDA regulations prohibit it. But you will find on-line markets even though it is not legal.

Ethically - do you want to sell someone your old equipment where it will not have been profesionally and properly cleaned and refurbished potentially harming the person you sell it to?

Donate it to the ASAA program so it will get properly refurbished and into the hands of somene who needs the equipment but can not afford it.

You can still claim a tax decuction for the donation if you're that cheap.

Ah, come on, truckerdad!!!! Claiming a tax deduction for donating a CPAP, etc. if one itemizes deductions is not being cheap. It is just using common sense. We "little guys" pay our fair share of taxes and then some so there is nothing "cheap" about claiming a legitimate deduction.

completely agree with CrohnieToo. there is nothing "cheap" about taking a tax deduction for a donation.....

some dme's distribute donated cpap's free of charge to people that can't afford it. call your local dme's and see if they accept them. you''ll be helping someone in your own community if you donate it locally.

I too have a machine, I'm not worried about specifically winding up with a credit but I just want to get it into the hands of someone who really needs it. What the hell is a DME!??!? Does someone have a link or reference to somewhere that I can donate one to?? I'm on the Jersey Shore.

DME = durable medical equipment; also often used to indicate the durable medical equipment providers as well.

Contact your local VNA Hospice association for placement of your CPAP w/someone needy. They usually appreciate such donations.

Sorry - the "cheap" comment was out of line.

I was trying to make the point that if selling a used CPAP on E-bay was something being seriously considered. The tax decuction might off-set most of what you might make on a sale without endangering someone else by accident.

Sorry... the "cheap" comment was out of line.
