Post My Study Numbers???
have had two sleep studies and have been diagnosed with moderate OSA syndrone with an AHI of 29. This was an overnight attended polysomnography. I have since gone on to the CPAP titration study and am not doing well with my CPAP machine. I did not do any research on OSA until I stumbled onto your forum and found it very interesting hearing others with similar problems. I don't know what an AHI fo 29 means right now nor do I know much about the rest of my numbrers. Here they are: 477.5 minutes in bed. Total sleep time 383.5 minutes. Sleep efficiency 80.31%. Latency to sleep onset was 19 minutes. [This I find hard to believe since I remember that it seemed like hours before I fell asleep. They even had a fire drill with strob lights and horns go off during the night and I was told not to worry about the noise and lights.] Latency to REM onset was 414 minutes. I spent 8.6% of the time in Stage One, 69.6% in stage two, 10.7% in delta sleep (stages 3 and 4), and 11.1% in REM sleep. I spent 8.1% of the TST in the supine position, 59.3% on right side, 32.6% on left side, 0.0% in the prone position. I had a total of 107 apneas with an apnea index of 16.7 noted. Of those there were 106 obstructive apneas, 0 central apneas, and 1 mixed apnea noted. There were 79 hypopneas. The overall respiratory disturbance index (RDI or AHI) was 29.1. The average oxygen saturation was 94%, with the lowest de-saturation of 88%. The average heart rate was 60 bpm, with maximum of 136 and a minimum of 43. [I'm sure the maximum was during the fire drill.] There were a total of 358 arousals with an index of 56. There were 189 arousals caused by apnea and hypopnea for an AHI arousal index of 30, 0 snore arousals, 104 spontaneous arousals for an index of 16, 65 PLM arousals for an index of 10. Total of 179 periodic limb movements of slep for a PLM index of 28. Respiratory events are associated with oxygen de-saturation to a low of 88% with an average saturation of 94%. [Isn't that pretty good?]. I spent 6 minutes below 90% saturation. Mild to loud snoring was noted. Sleep architecture was fragmented with 358 arousals and 17 awakenings. Sleep stage distribution shows increased stage 3 (11%) for a patient of this age group. [I'm 65]. Epworth Sleepiness Scale is 17 (of 24). I'm not sure of what most of this means other than I have OSA and am trying to deal with the CPAP machine. I also noted that my doctor is not an member of the ABSM and I am thinking about seeing one who is. I don't think that my doctor gave my case much thought and that the Cleveland Clinic Florida is more interested in creating money pods like sleep study centers, plastic surgery centers, etc., than provideing first class servide to the patients. I will appreciate any help offered in understanding my study results. Thank you!
