Post Still tired with CPAP
Hey everyone,

Has anyone experienced being exhausted even with the CPAP? I've had mine for over three years and am still wiped out at least three days a week. I'm going for another sleep study next month to test for restless legs syndrome; maybe that's it.
Any ideas why I might still be tired?

thanks!

You may need to have the pressure on your CPAP adjusted.  When you go for your sleep study, they should be able to determine if this is the cause.  There may be other factors as well that should show up on a sleep study.

Hi,

A few things.

If its been three years since your last sleep study there is a strong possibility that your overall situation has changed, whether it be weight gain or a worsening of your sleep apnoea.....as this can happen.

Are you using your cpap all the time ? You say that you are wasted at least 3 days a week, how are you for the others ? It could be a situation that you are not using it for sufficient hours each night.

If you are fully compliant with your cpap, and your situation has not changed (as above) you might be one of the few who suffer from residual daytime sleepiness. I believe that this can be treated, but sometimes Provigil (a stimulant) may be prescribed for the short term. Careful though it can be addictive and there may be some side effects (not sure).

RLS may have reared its head, but I think it might be one of the above.

I told my doctor that I was tired at times.   He told me I was doing more and that it wasn't sleepiness, but normal tiredness. Guys, wish me luck... I am starting a job full time ( six hours a day) and it has been a while since I could hold one due to my sleep apnea.   This time I HAVE to work, not just something to do like before.  The CPAP has been a blessing and I am hoping for the best. Thanks
