Tylerton, like all of Smith Island, is comprised of locals who live off the water, catching crabs and oysters. There are no roads on these islands. On Tylerton you get about by either walking, biking or using golf carts. There's only one church, and one pastor serves the churches of both Smith and Tangier Islands. Below is the only store or market in Tylerton.
Below is the only place for visitors to stay in Tylerton, a Bed & Breakfast called the Inn of Silent Music. The hosts are the only outsiders in Tylerton. They are shown below having their oatmeal breakfast after serving our fancy and amazing breakfast. Very nice people. Unfortunately, they are now selling the inn to retire in Indiana after having operated this inn over ten years. The inn has only 3 rooms for guests. Dinners are served on the screened front porch, timed to watch the sunsets. Nice relaxing place, but you don't go there if you don't plan to relax and do nothing. There is little to do in Tylerton except to read, paddle the inn's canoes, listen to the birds and walk around to view the few houses.
