I know there aren't many of us out there who use this machine, I'm still trying to get used to it. Good news is I quit my second job at the grocery store at night, so maybe now I'll start getting some sleep at night! Woo Hoo!
The confusion I've been having is this: I am 100% compliant...if I miss a night with the machine, I feel it the next day...headaches, brain fog, the whole 9 yards. I've gotten into the habit of checking my "results" every morning when I get up. It always says Mask fit: excellent (or sometimes very good), Avg Pressure: 8.4 (or somewhere around there), and either treatment time or length of use or something like that....and here's where my problem is....this morning, it read 0:30 hrs. Now, I know that I wore the mask all night long, same as I do every night...not just for 30 minutes! Some days, I'll wake up and check, and it will say like 6:35 hrs, or however long I slept for... its kinda weird. What's the deal?
I've also got a smartcard in it, and asked the DME to give me a copy of the results when they downloaded it. Anybody know what kind of info they'll get off of it?

The machine records several parameters, such as Tidal Volume (VT) , Average Pressure, Leak Rate per minute, Resp Rate, and MV minute vent.
When the DME downloads it, it will print out graphs for approximately the past month for all values
I have not necessarily found that it mis measures the duration of the evening -- but i also can't tell you it hasn't happened to me since I have had the machine (last june).
Perhaps it didn't record data for some odd reason.
Why don't you keep a small notebook near the bed and record when you go to sleep and write down the approximate wake time.
Then if it is wrong you have some log to discuss with the DME
Talk to your DME. They can suggest how you get more access to the data
I called the DME about a week ago, and told them the whole story...they called ResMed I guess, and asked them about it.....long story short, they swapped out my machine. They gave me a new machine, and the first two nights it did great. Almost 7 hrs the first night, and 6.5 the next......this morning? 0:35. Again. And even my husband, looking over my shoulder when I checked it, said "You wore the mask all night long....you didn't kick me!" LOL! If I'm not wearing the mask, I WILL wake him up somehow at some point. Poor guy.
Soooo....I don't know. Maybe its a defect. I guess I will actually start keeping a log, make a note of what time I put it on and took it off, etc. I'm just one of those people who likes to see the results and see how much sleep I'm getting (so I know whether or not I should feel tired! LOL!).

Just an update.... I got up this morning and looked..... almost 5 hours. (shrugging shoulders) Its just weird, that's all. But, I had an epiphany this morning too.... I've been having problems with leaks with the Activa, and I switched masks last night and used the Ultra, and my mask fit this morning was excellent, so maybe its been the mask that's been doing it. We'll see what it says tomorrow....

I don't usually check my sleep duration on the ASV - but I just got a recent dump from the ResScan software and it probably stores duration -- Let me look.
I see a lot of variation in mask leak rates with the current headgear I am wearing. (And my DME believes they have a solution for that -- a new mask that has different style of headgear), but that doesn't explain why you see wrong sleep duration ... It will be interesting to see what happens.
Well, guess what? Got up this morning, excellent mask fit, and 0:47 minutes. I like the mask though! LOL! I think I'll get on the ResMed site and see if I can't ask somebody from ResMed....

You will have more luck if your DME or respiratory nurse or receptionist at the sleep md call ResMed.
They typically won't talk to a patient directly - although you should try and see.
It does sound like something that merits asking the machine manufacturer on what seems like a very reliable machine
Yesterday morning....4:28 hrs (I fell asleep without the mask & didn't put it on until like 3am...lol) This morning, almost 7 hrs....so, I think that somehow I am interrupting it somehow. Maybe taking the mask off during the night or disconnecting a hose or something....I'll have to do further study and figure out what I'm doing. I think occasionally it may be a glitch, but for the most part, it seems to be keeping time okay now.

You are the first person I have found who uses this ResMed Adaptive Servo-Ventilation machine. A Dr Clark at the Columbus Sleep Site highly recommends it for people who have central apnea (me). I'm thinking seriously about getting one. Do u have CA? I quit breathing just as I'm falling asleep.
I'm actually one of *2* people in my whole city who has one... LOL! My sleep doctor and my DME get all excited when they talk to me, like I'm a guinea pig or something.
Yes, I do have CA... its really psycho-weird... I'll do it just as I'm falling asleep sometimes too, its like the body relaxes SOOOO much, and then the machine will kick in and the pressure will increase, and it'll wake me up and I'll freak out thinking "so THAT'S what that feels like!"
I've been having some really good results with it, and if you can get one, I'd highly recommend giving it a try. I'm seeing some pretty good improvements on it.

Sherrie Baby, tks for the reply. Is Dr Clark at the Columbus Sleep Site ur sleep doc? They advertise the way the machine works, when it senses that you are taking a little longer to breathe, then the machine gently kicks in. It sounds like yours is kicking in a little strongly and maybe waking you up. Did you buy yours from ResMed, or get it from the DME, and did insurance pay for it? Tks for ur reply...hemi man
No, mine is not kicking in too strong... I'm just on that fine ledge between being awake and asleep, just on the brink of consciousness, and the pressure change rouses me. Since I've been using the machine for a little while now, I haven't had it happen. I finally got to the place where I put the mask on and roll over and drift right off! I had some pretty weird dreams last night, too... lol
No, I don't know Dr. Clark.... I'm in Chattanooga, TN. I got my machine from my DME (who is fabulous, by the way!), and yeah, insurance pays for it. I think mine might be a rental though... one of these days I'll have to ask that question and find out if I'm going to own it at some point.
I BROKE THE 7 HOUR MARK LAST NIGHT!!!! WOO HOO!!! I'm feeling pretty good this morning...lol

Sounds like you have got it worked out....that is great! I'm gonna try a comfortgel nose mask tomorrow nite, getting rid of this face mask because I'm evidently a nose breather not a mouth breather. The comfortgel was what they used in the sleep lab, and it got me down to zero apneas at 8cm. Don't know why the tech talked me out of getting it and put me on those nose prong things first time. Well, I'm down here about 30 miles north of Atl, about 1 1/2 hr from Chatt choo choo. If this DME doesn't work out, I'll find out who yours is. tks for all the info and keep on snoozing...hemi man

I have NO IDEA how this machine works and records data as compared to the Resmed S8 Elite - BUT - I do know that if you download the data too soon after waking in the morning the downloaded data will display the last sleep segment as an empty bar. But the stats will be there in the Statistics page.
Another thing is the hours you sleep and the internal clock setting. Your DME should check the time setting in your machine. These machines all (to the best of my knowledge) run on a 24 hour clock, from noon to noon. And to the best of my knowledge, all the Resmeds run on a 5 day week so to speak. Unless downloaded every day to every 4-5 days, all but the previous 4-5 days are rolled over into the averages and don't provide individual nightly stats except for those 4-5 days.
So if your sleep hours are at odds w/the noon to noon clock, it "is" possible that "some' of your sleep time is in one day's data and the rest of that night's sleep time on the previous or next day's data.
AND - Resmed recently (01 Oct 06) revised their pricing and selling policy and it seems the Resmed reps are extremely busy visiting sleep labs and local DMEs; and many DMEs who didn't carry the Resmed line, or only carried their bare-bones basic machine, are really not familiar w/the fully data capable Resmed machines and their capabilities and how to program and/or use the software. They are in a learning curve w/it.
It would be highly unlikely, tho not impossible, that you would receive two Resmed machines in a row that were defective. Altho, if this model is spanking brand new to production ....... they might be encountering some kinks they didn't encounter when "testing" it out before release to the market.
All points to ponder and questions to ask as well as suggestions to make.
Good luck and Rest well each night!!!!
