Post BiPAP
Today my Respironics BiPAP was delivered.  It is the M Series Auto.  Does anyone have any experience with this machine?  If so, how is it?  Any advice?

I just recently got the new Resmed VPAP Auto (not the Adapt - this one is in the S8 body, uses the Humidaire 3i integrated humidifier and has the new EasyBreathe techonlogy).

Obviously there's not much I can tell you about your Respironics Bi-PAP Auto. Except, man! the transition from inhale to exhale and vice versa is SO SMOOOOOOTH. The minute you put your mask on and turn your bi-level on you find yourself wondering if the bi-level is really running it is so quiet and it is so easy to breathe! I love it. I'm sure you will too, especially if you've been on straight CPAP w/or w/o C-Flex or EPR or been using an AutoPAP.

YAYYYYYY!!!!!  You got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  What did you get for a mask?

Advice...  Don't move the machine around with the water tank in it...it can *spill* out into the cavity.  Since you have never had a regular CPAP you will not see the difference between the two...but as CrohnieToo said...it is so much easier with the BiPAP.

I found it hard after being on CPAP for so long to get use to breathing with it....and the sound it makes...hearing your own breathing rhythm.  In the beginning I had to use to ramp feature so that it would make more of a constant sound while trying to fall asleep.  My EPAP is 8 and I started my ramp at 8.

I also thought in the beginning that the inhalation pressure was too short in time until I realized that it takes a few seconds for the machine to pick up on your natural breathing rhythm...then it goes by that.  So I start out now without the ramp and take about 5 or 6 nice long slow deep breaths...then it feels natural.

Looks like lking is going to give you the ins and outs of the machine itself since she has the same one and is somewhat of a techie!

BTW...I can not compare it to other BiLevels since this is my first BiLevel...I can tell you that it is GREAT compared to a CPAP.  I was going to get the Crohnie has due to all the great info she gave me and not knowing which to do...but I had to advocate with the DME to get a better machine and since they only stocked Resperonics I didn't want to rock the boat too much.

If you have any specific questions you are welcome to PM me.

I am very pleased, so far.  i haven't actually used it, but it seems to have all the features that everyone was recommending.  I do need to buy a reader for my data card.  Thanks again.

In addition to the reader you also need the Encoreviewer software.

Personally, I do not have the reader or the software...at ths time I do not find a need for it.  As long as my AHI is good and the system leak is good than I am good.

I could not wait to get my first xPAP...i was so tired of being so tired that I ran in and took a nap as soon as I got it!

Last night was my first with my BiPAP.  I'm sure I slept better than before.  It was a little difficukt to get used to.  And my sinuses were very dry and congested.  I think I will have to increase the humidity level.  Anyone with suggestions, please let me know.

That bipap is the one I have been trying to get, so far my DME is fighting it. But I am not giving up! I plan on getting the software once I get the Bipap. It's important to know everything about your treatment.

You may have to play with your humidifier setting a little each night until you land a setting that is comfortable for you, your nose, and your sinuses.  My comfort setting is #2.  I also use a tiny bit of Ayr Gel every night in my nares...it helps my nasal pillows get a good seal plus it's moisturizing to the inside of the nose, I also like the fresh slight fragrance of the aloe.  If you are experiencing congestion try using Muscinex for a few nights to see if it clears things up for you.  Right now you are going through the "get acquainted" stage that we all go through with a new machine.  Just experiment with different things until you find what works great for you.  What will work for one person may not work for another.  Good luck and happy dreams!
