Post waking up at 3 or 4 hours after going to sleep
Having solved my mouth breathing with polident strips and a small bit of tape,  I find myself sleeping solidly for about 3 or 4 hours but then waking up absolutely wide awake.  It is almost as if I have been startled but I don't wake up anxious or scared and I don't remember dreaming.  I am also not trying to pull my nasal mask off my face and I don't feel like I can't breathe.  I can usually go back to sleep in a few minutes with lightly waking up a few more times during the night.  It does not feel like good sleep though since I wake up feeling exhausted and looking like I have not slept in days.  I have read that the body learning to sleep properly can take some time after starting cpap, is my waking up due to just getting used to the whole experience or could something else be occurring?  I have my first appointment with the doctor since starting my cpap next week and I'll bring it up to him.  I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas that my illuminate the problem and get me to a solution more quickly.

One possibility is that a pressure adjustment, usually an increase, is needed.

What is the prescribed pressure setting that you are using?
Do you have a data capable device? If so, what is your average pressure and AHI data?

The condition is often worse during REM sleep. This can be determined by looking at the diagnostic sleep study report or by asking the doc. If this is the case, then the pressure may needs to be higher during REM sleep
