 Drugs
I have a questions.....do most of you take medications to sleep with sleep apnea? If yes, which one are the most common prescribed drugs?

I don't use any sleep medications -- and I question the safety of the long term use of sleeping medications. Some late night nude gardening perhaps?

SandraLee,
Do you mean are there any drugs you can take for sleep apnea? If that is your question, the answer is no. A CPAP (and a tracheotomy) are the only treatments currently available for sleep apnea.

Most of us don't need sleep meds once we get acclimated to CPAP therapy. But, yes, some of us do ON OCCASION use a med specifically for sleep such as Ambien, Lunesta or, I think the other one is Rozarem, until we do get acclimated to CPAP therapy.
Using the older meds they used to use to help w/sleep such as the antianxiotics, antidepressants or anticonvulsants is NOT such a good idea altho there are still doctors who resort to scripting them.

Hello. Yes I did take this medication in order to get used the the mask. I am scared what will happen when I get off this medication. He wants me to take Klonipin if I no longer take the Doxepin. Now I am being checked for seizures :(

Aha! This is an ENTIRELY different issue! I assume your sleep EEG indicated this possibility of seizures? One can suffer w/more than one sleep disorder.
I know they used to use Klonipin for Restless Leg Syndrome and/or Periodic Leg Movements during sleep. Again an entirely different issue than "just" sleep apnea. Now most doctors prefer Mirapex or Requip for the leg movement problems.

I have not had one yet. They are testing me in a few weeks because I having symptoms of seizures. Once I have the EEG will determine the result. I had the EEG at night and nothing showed up so they are going to runa 48 hour EEG. Yuck.
Thanks for the help!

Sandra,
Just to mention something to you, there are seizures which are caused by OSA. If you really are having seizures, then I hoped they are due to your apnea so that if you treat the apnea, you get rid of the seizures, no drugs!!
