Post Possible Sleep Apnea

I believe that I have Sleep Apnea, the problem is, I don't want to have to go back and spend over night in the hospital to find out.. Thankfully I do have health insurance so I guess thats one less worry... I think that they can do something at home for me thru my Areo Care place locally, but they have to have "cause" for this to happen basically for my Health insurance to warrent paying for it... They gave me a thing that I have to put on my finger at night time that checks my oxygen level during the night.. I'm not sure how well thats working out for me, cause I wake up in the morning and its not on my finger.. I know that once I woke up and looked and it was in the 80's... So I'm sure thats whats causing the problems...I'm suppose to be on Oxygen 24/7 but only use it when I'm sick or when I'm taking a nap or sleeping at night...
I don't want the Mask that forces air into you cause it would be to hard, thats what they had my mom on in ICU before she told them that she was tired of it all, it was hard to watch your own mom try removing the mask that was forcing 100% air into her lungs.. Some images you just don't get over if u know what I mean???
I'm asking alot here being new to this website.. Any suggestion.. The oxygen place where I go they told me the best way would be to go back into the hospital and do another study.. Problem?? I have dogs, and I have alot of them cause I raise Registered AKC Miniature Schnauzers and they rely on me, and I don't want my dad in my house, were not getting along to well at the moment...

If you suspect you have Sleep Apnea, you should get a Sleep Study done. No excuses about not wanting to wear a mask, or whatever. It's very important to take Sleep Apnea seriously, and do everything you can to determine if you have it.

If I were you, I'd set up an appointment for a Sleep Study as soon as possible.

If a doctor believes that you have sleep apnea you will need to get a sleep study; and some doctors or sleep clinics have equipment that allows home sleep studies.  You will need to see a doctor; either your GP or a sleep doctor.  As you have a condition that requires that you use o2, you will probably want to see a pulmonologist who has a sleep medicine specialty.

If you have mild obstructive sleep apnea you might be able to use an oral device rather than a CPAP.

Many areas have pet care services that will come to your home to feed and walk your dogs for you.

Well I've had one done like I stated before and if I recall correctly they said that I was restless while sleeping...And honestly thats not the "reason" that they put me on oxygen at bedtime and whenever I'm resting, I had Influenza Strain B and pnuemia(Sp) two years ago, and almost died.. They gave me a 25% chance of making it and I was on a Ventilator for almost two weeks.. The last three days that I spent in the hospital, I'd been taken of the Ventilator... And went home three days later..
I have Tons of Medical Problems from Birth, and my lung doctor told my parents that my lungs would be alot worse since all of that took place...I have Serve Scholsis to boot, I've had this since birth so I never knew what "Normal" was suppose to be ya know???

Unfortunately it sounds like you need to have a sleep study...your mother would want you to be treated if you have SA.  She would want you to do what you need to do to help yourself.

The dogs wil be fine alone for the short overnight stay.  Talk to the dr...he/she may be abel to give you something to help you sleep during the study.  You will need at least 2 hours of sleep...but the more you sleep the more accurate the results.

There are several different masks out there and you will find one that you can deal with.  The air going down your" throat" is no diferent than standing in a strong wind and breathing.  It soon becomes very natural.

See, if you have SA and NOT treat it...life is going to be much harder for you on top of what you already are going through.  It is not one of those things that someone can just tough out...there are major, life threatening consiquences you may have to pay if you do not treat it.

Though you need to get around...driving is not the best thing to do by what you have said.  If you are not concerned about yourself...then think of a child that may lose their mother due to you falling asleep, or not being as alert as you should be at the wheel and causing a collision.

On May 9, 1987 I lost my brother...he was a police officer killed in the line of duty, he was 35...in 1979, his wife was killed in an accident, she was 26....at the time, their daughters were ages 1 and 5.   My brother was raising his 2 little girls by himself......I mention this because both deaths were due to the recklessness of others....and there were 2 girls that grew up without either parent...because of someone else.

I know I should probably go in for another sleep study, its just at this point, I'm barely hanging on with the loss of my mom, and the last time I went to the hospital to have to "Stay" my mom was there, I could count on my mom ya know?? We had that mother daughter relationship so there for I think it would make alot of realities hit me, and I don't know that I'm ready for that..

None of this was quite this bad until the death of my mom... SO I think its got alot to do with alot of things presently happening in my life...
Sadly enuff, no one I don't believes wants to die and leave there loved ones behind, but thats all part of the life process I guess..
What I don't get is Im Very Under weight and I could possibly have Sleep Apnea? How does that figure ya know??

Because weight is not the main factor for SA.  Untreated SA causes a lot of people to gain weight...and weight gain worsens SA.  In adition...there are different types of SA...Obstructive: usually caused by narrow airways...then there is Central: when the brain forgets to tell the body to breath and then Mixed: which is a little of both.

SA has been given a stigma that only old fat men get it...this is not true.  I knoew very large people who have been tested and do not have SA.  All ages, genders, sizes get it.

Somtimes facing those fears head on is the best way to get through stuff...that old saying, take the bull by the horns....
