Post Switching machines
I'd like to know why insurance companies won't allow you to switch to a different machine.  I've heard about the DeVilbiss, and I'd like to try it, but I can't. It's supposed to be much quieter than my M series.  I'd also like to know how anyone can have more than one machine.  Don't they cost $1500 to buy out of pocket?

Most insurance companies will buy you a new CPAP every three to five years.

I bought an Intellipap (which is quieter than the M series) for $300 from an online seller.

CPAPs can be quietened by placing a piece of soft rubber under them of the type used as a groundsheet or similar to what was put under typewriters
a longer hose allows the CPAP to be further from the bed

dont cover the CPAP as the air intake may be blocked
