It's still coming well. I have had my band in for nine months now. I go back for another fill Janaury 4. I have a feeling the jeans I just bought in October are going to be too big before long, though. LOL.

Today also marks one year since I got my CPAP machine. Thing is, since I had surgery, I rarely have to use it these days.

Lori I am thinking about the lap band.  Are you glad you did it?  Would you do it again?  How much have you lost?

My husband had gastric bypass 6 years ago but in the past two years he has put on 60 lbs he is still down by 100 but I am scared as I see him go up in weight.  He was just recently put on a cpap and I am hoping that will help.  It just makes me nervous to spend this kind of money (our insurance won't pay) and have it not work, though I know others that don't gain it back.  I wonder how much SA has to do with the whole picture too.

Thanks for your time, and sharing your story.

If I had the chance to go back and do the band again, I certainly would! There are risks, but they are much lower than the gastric bypass. The only thing with the band is that one has to chew thoroughly or face "stuck" moments, which can be painful.

The weight loss is slower than the bypass, but it is also at a safer level. There also isn't the risk of "dumping," or malabsorption of nutrients like there is with bypass either.

And I was out of the hospital within 24 hours of my surgery--the healing time was quick too! Very Happy

ElleMarie- I envy people like Lori who have enough discipline to go the banding route. I,too was being worked up for a banding. Then I seriously thought...who am I kidding;I am soooo NOT DISCIPLINED enough for a band. The dreaded fear of "dumping" is what made me choose the RNY. I'm 1 month post op today and I have lost 28 lbs so far. I have lost 50 lbs including the loss pre-op. Why has your DH put on weight this past year? Has his pouch stretched that much???or is he one of the 60% of RNYers that don't get dumping syndrome??? I'm a newbie in the WLS field so my mind is like a sponge and I'm taking everything in.   Oh and heres an interesting bit of info. I had to pay nothing for my hospital bill(I did have some out of pocket costs to my surgeon and anethesiologist) since I'm an RN at a "sister" hospital. Hospital submitted a bill to Cigna for my 3 day stay(complication free) for, get this...  $87,500!!!!! Holy !@#!!!!!! Cigna paid $35,000 and that was considered payment in full.
