 Respironics Bipap Synchrony Question
Hi.
Just been diagnosed with OSA. The doc prescribed a BiPap with a 12/8 setting. Since my insurance had a 2500.00 deductable for this gear I had to look for another option. Luckily I had a family member who had moved from a bipap to a cpap machine and is loaning me her Respironics Bipap Synchrony. Can this machine be set to a 12/8 setting? It seems like it senses the best pressure settings to use? Is that correct? Or is there someway to hardcode it, so to speak?
Thanks in advance
Dave

Hi Dave,
Here is a user manual to the Synchrony, it is a nice machine http://global.respironics.com/UserGuides/UserGuideBiPAPSynchrony.pdf
Take the machine in to your DME or doctor, they can adjust the pressures on it to your prescription.
Hope that helps, Blessings,

Thank you. I had downloaded that and read it. It does not mention how to change the IPAP or EPAP pressure settings. Is this something that these machines block users from doing?
The home care provider in my area refused to set up my machine for me since it was not thiers. They can't risk damaging the machine they say. They seemed ticked at me for not going with thier package, but I don't have an extra 2500 in my pocket ready to spend on this.
I hope to be able to upgrade my insurance to a better coverage after the 1st of the year, but between now and then would like to get some good sleep.
Thanks,
Dave

 Respironics Bipap Synchrony Question
This particular Bipap is used a lot by hospitals. I am RT and the Hospital I work at has one. I have not used it in while but when i go to work tomorrow I will look at clincal manual and see if I can talk you through setting it. It also can be set to work as a CPAP.

Hey guys I'm NOT a moderator, but just trying to give you a friendly heads up before a REAL moderator steps in with the tazer
This board does not permit postings on how to change pressures or access clinical menus. You may have already been planning to take that discussion offline, but if you weren't... there's your heads-up!

understood. thanks for the warning. I guess that's why there are no instructions on how to change the pressure settings in the docs :) I am a n00b at all this and did not understand that this had to be set ONLY by a home med supplier. I was just diagnosed this month and with the insurance and the 6 weeks til my doctor can see me again I just thought I had to do something asap.
What does a person do who buys a machine online?
thanks,
dave

You can't buy a machine online without a prescription (US anyway) so the presumption is you will take it to your doctor's office to have it set, if you don't have a DME.
There are people on this board who have been given access to the clinical menus, I'm one of them. My doctor and DME are an hour away, and I rarely get out that direction other than to see them. Sometimes my doctor will tell me over the phone he'd like to change my pressure, after reviewing a latest test or other information. He will fax the prescription to my DME, who in turn calls me and confirms the new pressure settings. I change my machine and call both back to tell them it is done. That may seem like overkill but I am grateful they trust me not to muck about with the settings, and they save me an hour's drive just to set the machine.
You've got your scripted pressures. As long as you can set that BiPAP to only behave as an auto CPAP you should have no trouble. But that BiPAP can do a lot more, and more is not necessarily better in this game. Some of the ventilation support features should only be used if certain lung conditions warrant it. If you're not sure you have the machine set correctly, do take it to your doctor or DME and have them check it for you.
Hope that helps, Blessings,

If you buy online, the supplier will set the correct pressure from your prescription.

Advanced Menu for Respironics Synchrony S/T
Hello,
I had a Respironics Duet BiPap that starting humming after using it for a while, I realized the bearings on the blower were probably going out. so I recently purchased a slightly used (10 hours) Respironics BiPAP Synchrony S/T.
There are a couple of things that I am wanting to do.
First, if possible, I am wanting to download the data out of the dataport into my P.C. to look at it. How can I do that.
Second, when I purchased the Duet, the Home Service Provider provided me the secret buttons to push to allow me to change the pressures. I do not know of the "secret" buttons to push for the Synchrony S/T.
I don't expect anyone to publish them to this forum, but would appreciate the informaiton privately.
I am self insured, am not interested in giving money to a Home Service Provider for no service provided. Especially since I know that the pressures set for the Duet were working perfectly, and should work for the Synchrony S/T as well.
Thank you in advance for helping me out with this.
