Linda, I'm intensely jealous of your "five-minutes-on-a-bad-day" commute. Ever consider walking or biking in good weather?
Gawwwd.... not with my painful arthritic knees!

(although I'm sure it would be good for me.... with my poor health, I'd have to work UP to that!)
I do have to drive past the site of a fatal car crash, where mourners placed all sorts of wreaths and a cross next to the road as a memorial. There's not a day I don't see that, then look suspiciously at other drivers, wondering who was the culprit.
It's been funny moving from a big urban metro area to a rural small town (they call it a city, but I'm not convinced). When living in the metro suburbs, it was a 20-minute ordeal (counting drive and parking) to go to the grocery store. And it was nothing to commute two hours out of my day or drive 50 miles to go shopping on a weekend. Now, living in this small place, I groan when I try to decide if it's worth the "hassle" of driving the 3 miles to the north side of town. .... Strange world.
