Now you know how I feel about my lap band! My procedure is a little different from yours, but yes, I wonder why I haven't had this done before! It's going to be a year on March 22 since my surgery, and I have made some great progress over that past year.

Congrats on the 73 pound loss! Very Happy

My new favorite saying is I LOVE MY RONNIE(my RNY).  DH Ron initially thought I was telling him OFTEN how much I love him...til I filled him in. LOL!!!!!!!

Barbccrn and LoriPA has this surgery helped with your Apena? It seems to be doing well for your weight but how has it helped in others and my specific is the Apena.

Barb and Lori, congratulations.  I'm beginning the journey to get a lap band.  I've spoken to my HMO and they say if it's "medically necessary" they will pay for the surgery.  My doctor can tell them that it is.  I'm excited, and never thought I would be, because I'm such a chicken when it comes to needles.  But I'm going to do this.

Lori, thanks again for your help.

Ozone Rambler...PCP and I are thinking that my pressure of 15 is TOO high and I've been tired lately so we think I'm having central apneas. Matter of fact I'm going for a titration study on Thursday night. We have decreased my pressure to 13 at present time but we'll get the official reading on Thursday. I'm down 93 lbs since my highest weight;87 more til goal. My 19 yo's best friend told me "You lost my girlfriend" I was appalled...OMG...Your 19yo GF weighs 93 lbs?????

I am very seriously concidering gastric by pass I have 130 pounds to lose. my question is how disabeling is the surgery? I am alone raising my 4 year old grandson. maybe better to wait until he starts  school?
He's a good boy, but he is a 4 year old boy, he can hurt me now so maybe I should wait a year?   I don't care if it stops my apnea, I just need to live long enough to finish raising him. and at 5ft 4in 260 I'm not gonna make it.

Carla

Both your weight losses are wonderful. You give me hope.

Carla...my gastric bypass has been a life changing experience for me. I really haven't had any issues except that chicken is still my enemy so I've totally given up on it for now. I'm 7.5 months post op and I've lost a total of 123 lbs(includes pre-op loss). I've gone from a tight size 26 to a very comfortable size 14. I still have another 65 lbs to go but I AM ECSTATIC!!! Have you gone through your 6 month supervised diet yet??? This is the minimum required by most insurance companies. I'm an ICU RN and thought I could go back to work 3 weeks after surgery...MISTAKE!!! I took 2 more weeks and that was what I needed!  My biggest regret was why did I wait until I was 48 yo to have my surgery done??? I'm down to a CPAP pressure of 9(from 15) and I...yes me...use my elliptical to exercise every day. I love my new life!!  It sounds like your grandson is a typical kid and keeps you running...I suggest...start your workup ASAP. PM me if I can be of any more help!!!!

Carla..it takes close to a year for approval so it would not hurt to get the ball rolling now.  Having your grandson in school will help during the day and he will have to understand that you can not lift him at first...and he can't climb up on you suddenly.   My sister had the surgery and said the same as Barb said...she wishes she didn't wait so long...her life has completely turned into a new great direction now.  I believe she is almost 2 years post op...and now a size 4.  Her diabetes was under control without meds prior to leaving the hospital, the apnea is better and the asthma is not as prevelant....not to mention the self esteeem issues..her being able to get on the floor and play with her toddler grandchildren, play ball with her 2 active grandsons that are 5 and 9...the men holding the door open for her with a big smile...yes, the vanity is in it too..can't help it.

Hi Barb....yes...I LOVE my elliptical...NOW!!!!! The first day I could only use it for 2 minutes and I thought I was having a heart attack. 6 weeks later....I can actually work out for a 25 minute session. I use it 2-3 times every single day. My biggest news...I made it to ONEDERLAND last week. Yes...the first # of my weight is a 1...first time in over 20 years. GOOD FOR ME!!!!!!
