Post What helps with REM sleep
What could I do to help with my REM sleep?  I have had no response to my other post.  I was hoping someone could help me.

Thanks

Not sure what you're asking.  Can you elaborate?

And, why you are posting this in sleep studies forum?  Did you have a sleep study and you were told something about REM sleep?  Do you have apnea?

Yes, I have severe sleep apnea, and had a cpap titration done because I continue to have daytime fatigue after 2 years.  My original post was Please help with CPAP titration results.  Since it was a sleep study I figured I might get a response.    I have 5% REM sleep with spontaneous arousals.  The sleep doctor can not see me till the end of April.

Hi tllrxmom3g,

I just looked up your first post.

The only question I see you asking in either of these posts, is what will help your REM sleep?  Do you have a specific concern about it?  Or are you just reacting to seeing the 5% figure on your study.  If you're just reacting, relax Smile Your doctor will go over everything with you at the end of April.

Many people with sleep apnea get little or no dream (REM) sleep and little or no deep (stages 3/4) sleep.  Once they become compliant with CPAP, for many people a normal sleep cycle returns, sometimes it takes a bit of time.

Your sleep doctor is in the best position to advise you about any concerns you have over amount of REM sleep you are getting.  If you haven't already done so, please call the sleep doc's office and ask to be put on the cancellation list, you may be able to get in sooner than your appointment.

You can make sure that you are 100% compliant with your CPAP machine, using it every night.
You can ensure that you don't have any leaks.
You can check your machines statistics to ensure that you aren't mouth breathing during the night.

Are you still snoring?

I acually do use my machine every night, even when we go on vacation.  I don't get those morning headaches anymore.  How can I check my machines statistics to see if I am not mouth breathing during the night?  My husband said I am not snorning anymore.  If by chance I fall asleep reading to my girls my husband comes and gets me cause he can hear me snoring in the monitor so I can go to bed and use the machine.

What machine make/model do you have?  Some machines only track compliance (e.g. hours used), while others also track your mask leak rate and AHI.

I have a Remstar Plus it tracks only total hours used.

Yep you need a Remstar Pro to see AHI and leak rate.  You just got this one, right?  Your doctor can probably re-script for a fully-data-capable machine and you might be able to give this one back.  Depends on how it was arranged with your insurance, usually they are rentals anywhere from 3 to 6 months or more.

I have had the Remstar close to 2 years so I doubt they will take it back.  I'm going to see if he will prescribe me another machine like you said.  I can always keep the other one as a back up.
