I need to decide whether to go back to the same sleep center for a second sleep study, or choose a different one in Denver, CO. My though has been that having a second pair of eyes look at my case separately from the first center may be more helpful. I can go to National Jewish Hospital for the second study, which is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. The first study was done at Alpha Sleep (alphasleep.com) which is a chain of diagnostic clinics. I don't know if they have the same accreditation.
I have been reminded that a sleep technologist is a sleep technologist and it likely doesn't matter where the test is done. The people with the lofty credentials won't be there to administer the test anyway. The pulmonologist prefers Alpha Sleep, apparently because they are more responsive and get insurance approved more easily.
The reason I am going back is to determine whether a CPAP or BIPAP is better in my case. My blood gas is at 39, my AHI was 18 a year ago at the first test. I'm 5'10" and now 195, down from 215 a year ago. Lots of salad. My pressure is 13cm, and I've been evaluated as an extemely light breather. Should I go back to the first facility who would be more familiar with my first test, or get a fresh look at a new facility? Your feedback is appreciated.
