Post positive update!
Hi all!

It's been awhile since I've been on the forum....Christmas, work, kids, it's been crazy lately. But, I just wanted to post an update about how wonderfully Caden is doing since his tonsil/adnoidectomy.

He is like a new kid...it's just amazing. He just seems so much happier, always a pleasant mood. He's doing fantastic in school.

He sleeps very peacefully now. No snoring, no gasping for air (he does grind his teeth still, though.) Before the surgery we used to have to go through this great big ordeal to get him to go to bed-he fought sleep like there was no tomarrow....but now, his head hits the pillow and he's out like a light.

But the best thing is his preformance in school. When Caden was three he was put in a special pre-k program for children with "behavioral and emotional" issues. He started regular kindergarten this year and has done wonderfully since the surgery. He gets good reports about his behavior everyday and did great on his report card! His teacher and the counselors at his school called me to tell me that they do not feel he needs the specialized  behavioral help anymore and tomorrow I'm meeting with them to officially remove him from the program. His school is aware that Caden had sleep apnea, but I don't think they understand the extent to which sleep apnea can affect a childs behavior...this will be the first time I've gotten the opportunity to sit down with them, and I'm really looking forward to sharing our experiences with them, because I think the educational system is really in the dark about sleep apnea.

It just amazes me that since he was an infant we've been scratching our heads, wondering what's going on with this little guy, I cried so many tears wondering what I was doing wrong with him. We all thought he was out of control, angry, hyper, defiant, stubborn, difficult......and the whole time the poor little guy was just very, very, very tired. Imagine going your whole life without really sleeping.

Diagnosing his sleep apnea and getting treatment has profoundly changed our whole family. I am so thankful to his ENT for listening to our concerns and for his knowledge of sleep apnea.

P.s. Another plus since he had his tonsils out is that he hasn't got sick as much. He had quite a few ear infections before and lots of sore throats, and so far.....he hasn't even had a cold!

While I am not familiar with your son's story, I rejoice with you in the "new life" you and your family have found. It certainly gives me hope that they can find and fix whatever is ailing the rest of the kids...Congratulations!!
