Post TAP vs Modified Herbst?
Can anyone explain the difference between these two devices? My dentist says the TAP is "old technology" while the Modified Herbst represents the latest thinking towards  this type of appliance because it is adjustable (by him). He claims it will not cause bite or TMJ problems if one exercises the jaw 150 times in the morning., and that he has an 85% success rate for mild sleep apnea.

They are very different, and both good devices, but saying the TAP is old technology sounds like the dentist has a vendetta against Keith Thornton. Dr. T is always improving his TAP, so don't fall for that. The basic difference is that the TAP adjusts in the front and the Herbst adjusts on the side. BTW, saying ANY mandibular advancement device will not cause bite changes is close to...well, it just shouldn't be said. Do you have an update for us?
