Post Sweating
Hi,
I haven't been diagnosed with sleep apnea, but I have a strong feeling that I do have apnea. I do have an appointment for my evaluation next week and if/when I'll have a sleep test I don't know yet. My question for now is, is there anyone else out there that has a sweating problem (during sleep) , and if so, have been told that this is associated with sleep apnea at all? There are times that I get woke up in the middle of the night just swimming in sweat and times that I don't feel it till the morning when I get up. I have tried going down to just a sheet on, no comforter, having the A/C on or the window open and I have given up wearing anything to bed. I've been trying to keep a record of my sleep trends because this doesn't have a "normal" schedule. Sometimes it will be a week or more between occurrences and sometimes it will happen up to 3 nights in a row. This isn't the only thing that I'm going through and experiencing, but this is one ting that I haven't been able to find much info on. My docotr has also said that he hasn't heard of sewating being associated with apnea. Any help would be GREAT!!

Hi Krusty,
For many years, I woke mornings with my hair, neck, pillow and gown yoke drenched in sweat.  The head sweats could continue for up to two hours or more after waking, making morning shower, makeup and hair setting routine useless...I could sweat faster than the blow dryer could dry. I slept with a fan blowing full force on my face and neck every night!! I have now been on cpap for almost 6 years, and it has totally resolved my night sweats.  The relief was immediate and complete.  When researching the connection, my understanding of the causation was that, the body attempts to overcome lack of O2 to the brain by sending a greater blood volumne to the brain, and that over a period of years, it will even build extra collateral arteries in an attempt to maintain oxygenation during sleep.  The extra blood flow accounts for greater heat and therefore head & neck sweating. I also used to suffer frequent muscle cramps...a result of the fluid lost to sweating and nocturia and lack of good sleep.  Both of these symptoms were reversed with my ongoing compliance with cpap therapy.

Thaks for the info Okie. When my doctor said that he never heard of a conection that just sounded weird to me for some reason. Normally I don't sweat excessively during the day when just sitting around and such inside or normal activities outside. So when I started waking up to it at first I just thought I had too many blankets on or something. That was back in 2003 when I first really started to notice it. Just kept passing it off and did nothing and now that the doctor suggested a sleep study and my own researching of this on the net, finding that it just might have been a warning sign. Unfortunately it isn't limited to just one part of my body that sweats, it's all over! I feel bad (and not to be sick or grosse here) for my wife because we're always having to chage and clean the sheets and had to put a mattress protector on because of the dampness and stench. Another question I have is, have you or anyone else out there heard, read or been told of a connection between leg and arm twitches when awake? I know I'm tired and really ready for bed when that happens. Feels like the muscles tighten up in there, doesn't hurt, just uncomfortable. How about Charlie Horse cramps and or diarrhea? Just trying to get some info that might help in answering the questions I might be asked as part of my upcoming sleep test evaluation. Thanks again.

I also eliminated the night sweats almost immediately when going on CPAP.  This was something I was not expecting as no one had mentioned it to me before.  However, it is definately gone.  I have also noticed I don't sweat as much when doing activities in the daytime.  Before, if I barely moved, I would sweat...not the case anymore.  I assumed it was because I was overweight but apparently not  Very Happy

I notice that if I take off my mask in the middle of the night, I will wake up sweaty...the degree depends on how long the mask has been off.

Hopefully you will have the same positive outcome.

Post Night Sweats
Hey Krusty

I suffered with night sweats like most for years.  This has something to do with the adrennalin your body pumps into you when you stop breathing.  (I used to stop for up to 90 seconds.)
I  had the sleep assesment,  got CPAP and within two days the night sweatd disappeared.

I also suffered from anxiety - terrible dreams,  apparently also connected to adrennalin,  and they to have disappeared,  PTL.

As my handle suggests,  my ongoing problem that I can't seem to shake even after 4 months is the terrible tired feeling.   I  still wake tired,  I yawn and feel tired all day long,  and I really suffer from the depression which comes with the tired-all-the-time syndrome.

I have also not had any morning "wood" since this problems started years ago.   Sad

Hopefully that too will change soon.

Hang in there

Post No more sweats for me!
I also had night sweats; really bad in the past couple of years.  After my second night on CPAP therapy I woke up realizing that I was freezing; I actually need to cover up like a normal person now!
