Hi, I just did a sleep study, one overnight, and have been diagnosed with moderate apnea..I have a pending AETNA policy under review right now, I have no apnea in my medical history..should I wait for the insurance(will it cover titration test and/ or CPAP?..)..or should I just go ahead and pay out of pocket for titration test and machine(total 3000)?..is there an urgency in how soon I should get this treated?..I've been feeling !@#! for 6 months or so..is there anything I can do before I get the CPAP to make things easier to deal with the apnea?..I use a humidifier, does that help?..I'm a 54 year old male, in good shape, not overweight, I imagine this is genetic..I'm not at risk for stroke or heart attack if I wait for a month to get CPAP?..are naps helpful?..
Hi Jetboy,
You have a serious medical condition, which while not severe will require intervention.
As with all treatment therapy, the sooner the better. You are at a higher than average risk of stroke (particularly between midnight and 4AM) and there may already be some cardiac damage.
Sleep apnoea occurs when you sleep whether it is during the night or while napping, so in truth naps are not helpful.
A saving of $3,000 obviously comes into the equation, and I would not like to spend such a sum if there was the possibility of it being covered by insurance in 4/5 weeks. A suggestion.........would it be possible to hire/rent and auto adjusting machine for a month or two ? It won't do you any harm and it certainly will help with the apnoea. It should also save you the need for a titration study if the machine has a data card to record your sleep details.
Any more questions, don't hesitate to post.
Daniel
