I know there is one CPAP device with a built-in battery backup, but what are the other options available to sustain the CPAP during a power outage/loss?

My machine as a 12vdc jack, but besides keeping a car-type battery handy, what can be done?

I've more than a couple of very awful nights with a power outage longer than a couple of minutes.

I don't have an answer for you but I can say that living in the mountains, we have several outages depending on which way the wind blows     It may not seem like bad weather either when it does get real bad.  I've missed work a couple of times because the alarm clock messed up.

You might want to PM Okie, one of our moderators, with your question.  
She has some sort of backup separate from the cpap which she keeps stored under her bed.
She could tell you more about that.

From brief outages you can possibly try a computer battery backup (UPS).  or if you have the 12V adapter you can get a jump start pack that can be used to jump start a car.  They both should be able to power the CPAP for at least an hour I would think.

I couldn't take a chance not having powder to run my CPAP machine.  Living in a rural area, and having power outages quite often my husband I went and got a natural gas generator.  It did cost an arm and leg, but now I have peice of mind.   As I work from my home, it was install as a business expense.    Not everyone can do this.  I looked into getting a solar panel  and a portable generator.    When I am away I take the portable generator, they are a whole lot more reasonable in cost.     Gerri
