Post Combat arms with sleep apnea what next
Ok just had this sleep study done and they gave me 2 options  a operation by a ENT or go back in to get the cpap I do not want this to get me discharged I'm on recruiting detail now and if this makes me non deployable I fear I may have to reclass and be stuck in a soft skill.  Are there any combat arms MOS's out there with experience with this?

Post Please Don't Just Write Off
I'm sorry about posting this here. I know that you have your own problems and that you want to keep this exclusive to them, but I'm desperate. This was the only message board related to getting help with military related issues and I had try and hope that someone reading this can help. Please, just hear me out.
My friend is going to college right now. The army is paying her tuition because her father served 20+ years. The problem is that now it's time to pay for the next semester, and the office handling it won't send the money. She's eligible, and there's no dispute over it. The office just won't send the money. She's spoken to them repeatedly, and always she's been met with the same response. "We don't handle that in our department." Well enough, but when she asks what department would handle that, they tell her that they don't know. I'm not a soldier. I've never been in the military, nor has anyone close to me. I have zero knowledge of the workings of this. She does, though, and she's positive that this is the right office. Maybe noone here knows what to do, but if you could just point me in the right direction of the people that would I'd really appreciate it. If she can't clear this up it means the difference between a top of the line university and community college. Please, and thank you.

I dont know much about that program, but she might want to talk to one of the service orginizations (ie. the DAV) for assistance.  I am assuming that her father is retired.

Have you told them you want to see a civilian dr?  I don't know where you are stationed, but I know that most of the bigger bases have their own ENT drs and the big ones also have sleep clinics.  One thing is, though, if you go in there talking like you posted, no you are not going to get a good response.  I don't know how long you've been in the military, but I'm assuming long enough to know that it is a political game and having an attitude isn't going to get you anywhere.  Be diplomatic about it and use your chain of command.  If you are lower enlisted, they will push you to the side, get your chain involved and you might see some results.  And to say that you are the only one suffering this who is a combat vet, you obviously haven't read these military links.

Hi all, I retired from the Army in 1983 and have service connected disability’s at 50%, not all on one thing.  The way the DOD looks at this is some law was passed some time back that says you cannot get Retired Pay and VA Disability at the same time.  If you do not retire and have less than 20 years you will get something from VA that is service connected.
I hate to pop bubbles but that is the way it is now.  There are groups for Veterans on the net that are writing and calling congress to get this changed it has not happened yet in my life time any way, do not get your hopes up too soon and help with the letters.

Is that only if you are retired medically?  Like if you do your full 20, get out on a regular discharge, not a medical one, are you eligible for both payments?

I spent 23 years in the Army, retired and this is what I get after promises of full medical for my wife and myself, we do not even get that.  Medical Retirement under chapter 61 will receive VA disability but will not receive retirement from DOD.  This is very messed up for the Vet, when I pass on and my wife gets SBP (survivor benefit plan) I might add that I pay for, when she gets SSA it will be subtracted from the SBP, there is no way a vet or his wife are going to get ahead.  Now in March I turn 65 and will full under Medicare, I still have no idea what or how that will affect my VA or Tricare that I am on now.  It is even worse for the Combat Solder that comes back with out an arm or leg or even worse.  Too much going for civilian contractors over there (126,000) and not the troops.  Remember this come Election Day.
VA will cover CAP, the equipment and testing and so far for me at the Minneapolis VA they have been tops and have worked with me very close, even when I was cranky and upset.  There is talk of this Chapter 61 changing and congress has bill’s they are working on now, we just have to keep in touch with then and let them know all this affects us and our quality of life.  Don’t ever give up, write letters no matter what.

It's sad all the promises that were made to vets and all that the vets and their families have sacrificed and then they get shorted.  My hubby is supposed to retire in about 5 years and I fear some of these issues when he does.  BTW, I'm originally from Winona, MN.  Albert Lea was one of our big rivals.   Laughing
