Post Prices of CPAP in Canada is a ripoff
Sorry if you're reading this again, I posted it elsewhere as well and realized this was a better forum.

I live in Canada and realized that we're getting ripped off for the mask and equipment here.  I want a Fisher & Paykel FlexiFit Series HC407 mask and it's just over $200 here while it is $55 down in the US.  My private insurance covers part of the cost but I have a lifetime maximum that if these things keep costing $200, I'm going to run out of $$$ soon :(  Anyone know of where to get them cheaper in Canada?

I replied to your message elsewhere but I'll repeat it here.

Yes, buy it online.  My husband bought a new mask from a large U.S. online supplier and the transaction went just fine.

There are 2 Canadian online dealers that I know of but their prices are not that great.

You could also try bargaining, depending on where you live.

I can't give you the specific info here so I have sent you a private message (a PM).

I'm not quite sure if my company will let me buy online but I guess if there is a proper receipt than it's fine.  it's just the buying from USA thing that still is iffy if I want to get coverage from insurance company.

There are good and bad things about every country's health care methods and costs. Too bad Michael Moore and the AMA can't see it.

As an American who has lived in Canada for the last 27 years, and has actually experienced both health care systems from a personal perspective, I can't let that last remark go unchallenged.

One of the main reasons I would not consider moving back to the land of my birth is the health care system.  No system is perfect, but the Canadian system trumps the American one in so many ways that it's hard to know where to begin.

Suffice it to say, I have never met a single Canadian - NOT ONE - who thinks we should adopt an American-style system in Canada.  That's not to say none exist; that's to say I've never met one.  And polls show a huge majority of Canadians (over 80%) prefer the Canadian system, even with its flaws, over the American system.

The American health care system costs a great deal more on a per capita basis that the Canadian system, and covers fewer people.  But not only that - it doesn't do as good a job!  Average life expectancy in Canada is higher, and infant mortality is much lower.

buying masks, etc online can be cheaper but watch for hidden very high post and package charges that only show up very late in the ordering process

Yes, there were packing and handling charges but the final price was about half.

I don't begrudge the equipment supplier a healthy markup if they do something to earn it.

The most recent mask I bought online from the U.S. cost me $10 to have mailed here. My insurance from work will only cover 1 mask a year so I buy a lot of stuff out pocket. As Frances said, it costs me about half of what it would to buy locally. I've been buying online for nearly 2 years and never had any problems.

Post Purchase an CPAP on line in USA
I purchase a CPAP machine from one of the major on line store in US.
The price is about half to one third compare to Canada
It took three weeks before I finally receive the package.
The package is just an box with no insulation.
The machine humidifier cover was crack. I hope the machine is still
functional. I don't think I will buy from them again without the
knowledge of proper package of the machine.
