Whoooo Hoooo!!!


If anyone is having trouble with leaks and sore spots I found a wonderful thing thanks to a very wonderful sleep dr in Ohio!

He told me to try wax ear plugs as weatherstripping. I couldn't find any wax ones but I did find silicone ones.  

"MACK"S Pillow Soft Earplugs...The Original Silicone Putty"  Wally world has them for $4-5.00 for 6 pair in a plastic case. You can use them several times before you have to throw them away.

I squished one and rolled it into a rope and placed it under my mask where it was leaking and rubbing my nose. It stayed put all night. My skin didn't have any reaction to it. It stayed put all night. It stayed on the mask when I took it off this morning. Then I peeled it off. No sticky residue!  

Works great!  If you cannot find it at Wally World, ask the pharmacist to order it for you. They will order just about anything. If you still cannot get it, PM me and I will see what I can do.

I am so excited that I get to help someone else for a change!

You saw my post about the theatrical liquid latex tip I found on another forum?  My order of it just arrived and I'm going to check it out.  But I'm definitely going to look for both the wax your doctor recommended as well as the silicone ear 'putty' ear plugs that have worked for you.  It doesn't hurt to have these on hand even if the latex works, if I know one thing for certain it is that nothing is always certain!

Pseudo, I thought about your suggestion today as I read the morning paper with the pictures of some college kids using the latex for their Halloween faces.  In that same vein, last Thanksgiving I had to go to Michigan for a family members funeral.  I brought my machine, Aussie Hose  and mask, but left my mask interface at home.  After the first night, my niece who was in the room next door to me, said she couldn't go through another "Grand CentralStation night" with my snoring.  She took one of those little stuffed toys (a snake or eel or gator o r somesuch and used it as a sort of flange inside my mask.  It lacked a little in the translation but it was better than nothing.  Good ole American ingenuity.  YCF JuJu

Off topic but you said "Aussie hose" -- do you mean the heated hose by SleepZone?  Mine just shipped so I won't have it for another week or so.  I have a problem with the bedroom air being too cold now that it is fall here (I did not have a humidifier because of my asthma, doc would prefer I didn't use one if possible).  Cold air was giving me horrible headaches so sleep doc prescribed a humidifier.  No more headaches but I find it makes me cough most of the next day (on setting 1!).  So I am going to try the heated hose next.

If that is what you meant, how do you like yours?

Pseudo,  Yep, One and the same.  I use it with my F&P 604 with the Humidifier on 2.  Never had a rainout.  It is worth every penny.  Good luck and God Bless, YCF JuJu

What am I missing here?... what is the difference between a mask and mask interface?  I thought a mask was a mask  

Puh,  I may have it all wrong but I call the mask the hard plastic part and the interface the pliable part that fits into the hard plastic core.  I'm probably using the wrong names for it.  I use the F&P 431 and it is a mask and a soft pliable part that fits in what I call the mask.  Probably, someone else, can explain it better.  Sorry.  YCF  JuJu

JuJu, I doubt you are wrong. I've read many others using the same term and I didn't understand it then either    For some reason, the way you stated it made it clear to me what MY confusion is     I haven't paid a lot of attention to masks other than the nasal pillow ones as that is what I'll be getting 1st.

I will be looking for another mask soon though. I will want a full face for when I have a cold/allergies etc. so I guess I better start paying attention to info about other masks.

I picked up some of the Mack's Earplugs yesterday and tried them last night.  It was wonderful!

I am on a BiPAP with IPAP of 20 and an EPAP of 18 which are pretty high pressures for my Hybrid mask to handle.  So I have been suffering through the pain of overly tight straps and leak rates in the 50s.

Last night, using your suggestion, I managed a whole night with an average leak rate of only 43.07 and my straps were lose enough for comfort.  And no strap marks this morning!

I believe that interface = the whole mask, not a particular part of it.

And the machines are called "flow generators".

At least that's what the manufacturers call them, whether anyone else does, I don't know.

It's a little like the electrical industry calling what the rest of us call a light or a bulb a "lamp"  and the rest of us think of a lamp as the fixture that holds the bulb.

While waiting to have an Rx filled last night, I saw a very well stocked selection of earplugs, Macks included (2 types), at CVS.

Pseudonym - Any updates on the use of liquid latex?  How is that working for you?  Is it stopping the leaks?

Peke,  Just bought a package of the Mack's Pillow Soft ear plugs.  As soon as my nose is back to normal, I'm going to give them a try.  Can it really be this easy?
