Hi,
I have recently been diagnosed with sleep apnea and have been using my new compact ResMed CPAP machine with the ResMed Mirage Activa Nasel mask. I had heard a lot of complaints about using the machine and getting used to it so when my sleep doctor prescribed it I asked him if the stories were true. He said it does take some time getting used to it, but he said it only took him a couple of weeks and it will leave me feeling much better during the day. So I was determined to wear it every night so that I could get adjusted to it. It was real difficult at first, but now I think I'm pretty much used to it.
TIP - I discovered that I was doing something wrong for the first week and a half, and once I changed what I was doing it made a world of difference for me. I almost always get up 3 or 4 times during the night to use the bathroom. Every time I got up I was removing the whole thing, straps and all. Then I remembered the lady showing me how to unhook the hose at the mask. This made it so much better for me because I wasn't having to readjust the straps and all every time I returned to bed.
I haven't had to change masks or machines nor have I struggled with wearing it all night long, but I have been having another problem. I have been sleeping 10-12 hours a night and I'm so sleepy during the day that my eyes burn and my vision is blured. So I've been sleeping during the day a little too. When I found this website I read through several posts and seem to get the feeling that this is a normal response to my body adjusting to the better quality of sleep that it's getting now. Could this be correct? I am going to call my doctor in the morning to discuss this problem with him, but it would help to get some response from you people here too.
Thanks for your time in reading and responding to my post.
Cindy
