Post Newbie - Just diagnosed via Sleep Study & going to get C
Evening all!
It's very nice to see that so many others are concerned with this disease.
I've had my sleep study done and was told that I have severe sleep apnea.  I've read multiple posts in here on the results and will have my dr fax my results to me tomorrow so that I can review, compare and figure out where I am in this mess...
I'm very glad that I was able to find a dr that would refer me, since I know I've had this problem for years and most of the dr's I've had before totally disregarded the problems I would tell them about (like it was all in my head) and told me the snoring was a natural thing (some people just snore).
I have a question, what can I expect exactly for my 2nd study?  ie:  CPAP with Titration?  Much different from the first?

Thanks!
LG

I had an easier time with the titration. Even though I knew what to expect the first time, I was very restless and took a long time to get to sleep.

For the titration I went to sleep fairly easily. I had several very vivid dreams (usually don't dream that I can remember), although I did wake up a few times to change position. I think this was because of all the wires I had to move to turn over. Didn't have the urge to take off the mask at any time. I think being well read and prepared helped. I felt great the next day. More energy, I guess because I was finally getting enough oxygen. I did feel some pressure in my chest occasionally which the tech said was probably when she upped the pressure.

I can't tell you *exactly* what to expect, but can relate my experience!  I had to have two titrations done; for both of them I was wired up exactly as for the initial study, except with the addition of a CPAP mask.  If I had found this place, I would have handled this part much differently -- instead of asking to try on several styles of interfaces, I just let them slap on a full-face mask and went.  The mask leaked, and I barely slept, and so I ended up having to go back to get titrated a second time.  The second time went much better; the tech fitted me with a nasal mask, and really seemed to know more what she was doing than the first tech.  I was also able to take an ambien for the second titration, so I actually did sleep.

My main problem was that I woke up and  had to go to the bathroom, and couldn't figure out how to get the mask disengaged from the tubing (it's hard enough with all those other wires, too).  When I finally couldn't wait anymore and ripped the whole mask off my face, the tech came in and told me she was about to come wake me up anyway -- I was at the end of the study!

Soooo . . . to make a long story short, you can expect the same setup as before, but with a few little extras -- you'll be hooked up to a CPAP with a mask of some sort (make sure they fit you sitting up AND laying down!).

What are the normal ranges for the study results?  I've been looking all over the place and cannot find them...
If you'd like me to post my results, let me know and I'll get my scanner back together.

Thanks!
