What did it take you a while to get used to on the machine?

I don't mean the masks themselves ;) -- but aspects of it. I was thinking of that the other night when on reflex I moved a finger with a sharp nail to my mouth to bite off that sharp bit (it's a habit) and jammed my finger into the mask LOL.

I'm a stomach sleeper, and very used to sleeping with my hand under my cheek, so that's been hard to get used to, and I have realized just how often I have touched my mouth, or scratched my nose now that I'm on the face mask. That's been hard to get used to.

Waking up to something on my face.  I'm claustrophobic, and even 8 months after I started all this, I still waken startled by something clinging to my face.  I have the smallest masks I can find, the Swift and the Optiflex, but they are still much too restrictive.

Pretty easy for me, I felt some relief right away and that probably increased my motivation. A little nose soreness, (gone away now) and
a little sinus trouble the next day (greatly relieved by finding the proper humidifyer setting). That was about it. I'll never be without my
machine when I sleep now if I can help it.

I got used to it easily. I'm a left side sleeper, too. The only pet peeves I have now are the middle of the night face toots and strap slippage. My left side lower strap rides up and folds my earlobe upwards.  d'oh!

It was difficult for me to get used to sleeping with the mask on.  I get very closerphobic and the mask made me jumpy and tense.  I just couldn't go to sleep.  So I started counting my blessings.  Things that are wondrous and good in my life.  Pretty soon I would relax and go to sleep.  It has now been 2 1/2 years and I still count my blessings before sleeping.  It became a habit and is a good way to recognize the good in our lives.

Good Luck
Madre

I started sleeping the second night with it, and fell back tyo sleep a few minutes after waking up during the night, so that was OK, but my nose had a hard time with it. I went through boxes of tissues and was constantly sniffling for over 6 months. First I tried wiping the mask with alcohol free antiseptic wipes every day, and wiping my face, then using nasal gel, nothing really solved the problem, it was like a permanent runny nose.
Eventually I realized it was a malfuntioning humidifier, and once I fixed that, my nose finally healed. If my DME people or my doctor had been a little more aware of what was going on, and a little slower to say "Its normal, give it time, you'll get used to it," I could have been healed 6 months earlier.
