haha. I still have the original nintendo. couple times a year I play it....still looking to get a copy of the paperboy game. lol
I am a 26 year old single mother with a full time job. I could never bring myself to spend money on a new system or find the time to play it.
But I do love my nintendo. :) Good old super mario brothers/duck hunt. I still even have the duck hunt gun controller.
I am a long time C64/Amiga/PC gamer that is currently playing City of Heroes and World of Warcraft. I also have a Wii (had one since Nov), but I only have 3 games (Wii Sports, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance), but I was playing Mario Party 8 last night at a friends - lots of fun!!
I bought it after I saw a spot on the news where a Senior Citizen's Center or retirement housing had a system. It showed those senior citizens really whacking that tennis ball! It came with the basic practice games and Wii Sports.
I am quite overweight, and thought that would be a fun, creative way to get some exercise into my daily routine. I was right! It definitely IS exercise. I can work up quite a sweat with the bowling (haven't tried the tennis yet, but I am sure that will be even more exercise).
They are quite pricey right now, and I had to think long and hard before I bought it. I think it will turn out to be a wise investment for me, though.

You made a great investment in the Wii and it is the least expensive of the new generation game consoles. You really want a work out try the boxing. A few rounds in boxing can really work up a sweat on any one.

Just sneaking in here since I am new. I play LoTR online as well as any Trading Card game I am currently fond of (right now its some Stargate), Star Wars Pocket Game and DreamBlade miniatures. Anyone else do more than just computers?

I started out many many years ago with Advanced Dungeons and Dragons second edition, but long enough ago that there were still people using first edition rules! I owned some of these first edition books.. wish I still did. How's that for showing my age! LOL.
I grew up in Waukegan, Illinois, which may not be known at all if it weren't so darn close to the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in North Chicago. Because of its proximity I was exposed to all kinds of gaming in a local hobby store near my High School -- Friends Hobby and Gaming store on Washington St. which had a few name changes over the years but always had Friends as part of the name. I played Naval Miniatures when the opportunity came up. WW1 aircraft games like Fight in the Skies (a favorite of mine.. even if it wasn't too popular for others). Legend of the Five Rings, Dungeons and Dragons original box set (not the advanced rules.. different enough that it feels like a whole different game entirely), Star Fleet Battles (I liked to play the Tholians), Harpoon ( I successfully dropped a 500 pound bomb onto the deck of a destroyer from a Libyan Mirage 3.. someone had to play the bad guys! )
I also had a chance to fool around with Paranoia, Call of Cthulu, Battletech miniatures, Napoleonic miniatures, Warhammer 40K epic miniatures (Go Nurgle!), Twilight: 2000 (post-apocalyptic role playing in Europe), World War 2 tank battles for miniatures, Heart of Oak, and Wooden Ships and Iron Men, Bureau 13 - Stalking the Night Fantastic (think Men in Black), and of course Vampire: The Masquerade (I like the Nosferatu)
Did I really spend that much of my time playing these games? *phew* Guess I did.

Arrgh. I've been disappointed in consoles since the SNES, and I've become jaded as a result. The XBOX is evil, in my opinion, because it is contributing to the death of video games on the PC (along with a host of other factors, but it all really comes down to Big Brother Ballmer at Microsoft with his attitude that PCs aren't for gaming, we make an XBOX for that -- grr).
Ok, that rant is over, on to the next. None of the other consoles in any generation have held any appeal for me.
Until now.
This Wii thing has me very intrigued. I played on one at a friend's place and now I'm shopping for one. I feel a bit like I'm betraying my own principles but the dang thing is fun, no question about it.
I'm still looking forward to a few PC titles (notably Spore and UT3), but I think that the Wii may actually make a convert of me, and I don't think that I will upgrade my computer just for new PC titles, as I have done so often in the past.

I can't believe I overlooked this topic. It's my favorite hobby!
I'm 25 years old, and I've been playing console, PC, and various other table top or non traditional board games since I was two or three years old. These days, I have my own PC that is good enough to run the newest games well, as well as having a 360, PS3, and a Wii. My boyfriend and I also play in a weekly game on Saturday that alternates between three to four different table top games. We are currently playing two D&D campaigns, one Spycraft campaign, and we are going to be starting up a Scion (superhero) game. Additionally, we have played 7th Seas, Call of Cthulhu, and d20 Modern. We're both currently World of Warcraft players, but I like to also play Neverwinter Nights 2, Civilization IV, any of the Final Fantasy games, most RPGs, and I love Wii Sports.
I also enjoy watching other people play good games, especially ones that I would have more trouble with. For instance, I would be very bad at playing games like Darkness or God of War 2, but my boyfriend is much better at them, so I prefer watching his games unfold as I won't get as frustrated by them.
I come by my love of all things gaming naturally, as my father has been an avid gamer his entire life as well. He has been kind enough to pass on to me most of his gaming collection already, as I make much more use, and I have copies of the original D&D manuals that seem more like user handbooks than the large books we are accustomed to these days.
I was reading a bit about a new Star Wars game called "The Force Unleashed," but there's no annoucement as to whether it is going to be put out on the Wii (definitely is for the 360 and PS3). I hope it is, the Wiimote is just made for being a lightsaber
Well, this sucks. I posted to this very topic last week but somehow, it didn't show up. Somebody be dissing me! Or maybe, as a sleep apnea sufferer, I hallucinated the entire thing? I have done that, frighteningly enough.
Anyway, I wanted to say howdy to one and all. I, too, am an avid gamer. I have an iMac and want to buy Diablo for it. I know that game is soo yesterday but it's still fun. My girlfriend and I own an Xbox but dearly want to get an Xbox 360. Too bad we'd have to take out a second mortgage to get one!
Girlfriend has sleep apnea as well, poor thing. We do end up playing video games at all hours of the night as our sleep apnea does some weird stuff to our sleep patterns. G/f is playing Halo 2 and loves, loves, loves it. I can't play first person shooters as something about the camera makes me dizzy, nauseated, and liable to toss my animal crackers.
I worked at Nintendo (in Seattle) during the N64's heyday and tested all sorts of games (cool ones and absolute stinkers like "Armorines" and "Mickey Mouse Racing"). Due to my sleep apnea, though, I lost that job, as I kept falling asleep! Who hasn't been there?
I also was an artist on a PC/Mac game called "Bill Nye the Science Guy-Stop The Rock!". This is a fun game if you can still find it (www.pacificinteractive.com) and teaches kids and adults about science. I like RPG's, especially the "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I & II" and "Fable". I like a good espionage/squad shooter like Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six series, although the realism sometimes takes the fun out of it for me. One shot, one kill?! Where's the fun in that? Oh, and forget Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell game! It was so difficult I gave up after the first fifteen minutes.
Ugh. I'm getting so tired, all of a sudden! It's only 3:20 p.m. and I think I'd better fire up the ol' CPAP machine and take a little nap. Hope to hear from ya'll (sorry, I live in Atlanta, GA!) later.
Saw a news item last night about game developers and doctors getting together and bringing out video games that are heathy for you. Course the news item had to mention the Wii and all the good it has already done on making people get up and more active with their games. Dance Dance Revolution was also mentioned. They also looked at games to improve your mind as well so it was a rather interesting piece.

Maura, the site was having problems last week on its old server, and they finally had to move it over to new hosting. Lots of posts got dropped here and there over a 3-4 day period, I had a couple disappear too. Just know that they've solved the problem and all is well again - no one intentionally whacked your post :)
I'm actually the same way on FPS games, I get motion sickness from them. It's weird because I didn't use to be that way. In the early '90s in college I used to play quite a bit of network DOOM. A few years later I tried to play Quake when it came out, and found that it made me light headed/dizzy. Now it has gone beyond just FPS games to where almost any games with fast moving (or jerky) cameras causes that problem. I do play the KotoR series though quite a bit and don't have that trouble, and other similar RPG style games.
