You know for me I actually sleep better when my husband has his CPAP on. I don't have to listen to the snoring anymore and I actually find the hum of the machine soothing.Sometimes I do have the cold air blowing on me(from the exhaust) but it is not often and I ask him to change posititons and it helps. We do have a king size bed though and I think it helps to have lots of room. The best part of all for me is having that peice of mind that the machine is doing what it is supposed to and he is not having apnea anymore.

I sleep better as well.  I was reminded of this (in spades) when my husband's c-pap went kaput on an overseas trip last week.  The past 5 days (since he's been back) have been a combination of either him or I sleeping on the sofa, since I can't sleep with the snoring.  The old c-pap's white noise actually lulled me to sleep.  It'll be interesting to see if the new c-pap is TOO quiet - but I doubt it.

My Husband been using a CPAP machine since February. I found that  after a few days of adjusting to not hearing his snoring i got use to the white noise and it did lull me to sleep in a way. My husband got new nasal pillows a month ago and they hardly make any noise.
I do not think it so  so much the machine as much as the  type of mask
 Good luck

In our case, hubby's original c-pap was 8 years old, and the technology has come such a long way that there was a big difference in noise level when we got the new one.  His mask was the same one that he'd used with the old c-pap.  It did take a night or two to get used to NO sound, LOL.  But I still slept better than I had during the week and a half that he was c-pap-less, because I knew he was getting better sleep.  I guess I was suffering from "sympathy miserable sleep"?  LOL.  I'm just happy he has a new one now!!!

i am glad that he got a new one and that both of you are sleeping
Somehow we do get "sympathy misrable sleep". I did also. WHen he was adjusting and not sleeping well neither was I .
Now both of us are sleeping. I think knowing he is sleeping and safe helps.
Have a good day

Hmmmm..... I have been wondering, how many divorces/affairs/etc in couples that deal with SA  that  are related to Sleep Apnea and use of the cpap machine?

It isn't due to a lack of understanding or caring, but there comes a point in time where the need for physical closeness/intimacy can be very strong. One gets tired of always sleeping "single" in a bed while the other one is masked up at night.  One misses the closeness and touching and after a while the need  either shrivels up and dies or becomes to strong to ignore any more.

Just something I thought about the other night while I was kept awake by the sound of cpap exhaust for the umpteenth time. Strange how his sleep has improved since the start of cpap and mine has gone drastically down hill. I am now the sleep deprived person in the relationship with very little hope of it getting better in the near future.

I have been on cpap for almost 2 years now. Even though I use my cpap every single night, I still have sleep issues. I awake almost every hour through the night. I still get some sleep as I remember most of my dreams. I was told that with untreated apnea, you generally don't dream. I hate taking sleeping meds as they make me feel "rotten" the next day. Over all I get by pretty good.
My husband has adjusted to my cpap very well. His only complaint is that when I turn over & face him, he has the coldexhaust air hitting him in the face. Little does he know, but this is intentional. He also snores and keeps me awake. So when he turns away, I will turn back over. He also has apnea episodes but they are short and most of the night he sleeps pretty regularly.
Before the cpap, days were a nightmare. I would get up in the morning horribly tired. I was very scared to drive as I would get very sleepy. At noon I wanted to sleep so bad but had to keep working/driving. By the time I got off work for the day, all I wanted to do was to go home and go to bed.
One day I just tested myself. I slept late in the am, got up to eat a bite for breakfast. I took a nap before lunch, and laid back down for a nap after. I slept til dinner and after, I fell asleep watching tv. I then got up and went to bed and slept (?) all night. Who in this world needs that much sleep?!

Hi there Sueleelang,

Ok, I had to chuckle reading how you intentionally face your husband so the exhaust air makes him turn over so the snoring doesn't wake you!   Laughing

Say, sounds like to me he ought to be tested for sleep apnea.  Has he ever had a sleep study?  Does he have any other symptoms?  Just because the apnea episodes or whatever they are aren't so noticable doesn't mean he doesn't have sleep apnea.  It might be worth it for him to be tested.  And if it turns out he doesn't have sleep apnea, he will love the chance to tell you "I told you so."   lol

So I'm guessing you're doing much better with cpap.  Your description of before using cpap is like mine.  My symptoms had gotten so very severe.  I was sleeping all the time, any time I could.  But after I learned about sleep apnea, I see that it wasn't really sleep.  Oh, it was sleep, but I was damaging my body even more by zonking out all the time, because every time I lied down to sleep, my oxygen levels got lower and lower because of the apnea.  Strange, huh?

Have you had followup visits with your doc lately?  If the cpap is working but you're still feeling tired, maybe there's something that can be done.  It can take some tweaking.  How is the mask working for you?  What kind do you use?  Does it cover the nose only?  Are you mouth breathing?  If there's no mask leak issues or mouth breathing issues, maybe it's just a matter of needing a slight change in cpap pressure.  The doc might order you a temporary use of an auto cpap to further titrate you.

It's good you have a supportive husband.  Hold on to him!

Linda

I think that my waking up several times a night does not have anything to do with my apnea. I've had true insomnia off and on for about 12 years. When I sleep with my cpap, I sleep very well. I just wake up for a moment then go right back to sleep. I sometimes have a mask leakage, but a quick adjustment fixes that. I can not even bear to think of trying to sleep without my cpap. There is no desire to even take a nap at anytime during the day any more.
As for my husband, his "apnea" only happens when he is just falling to sleep then he goes into a smooth breathing. His snoring is off and on in short bouts. He does not have the other symptoms associated with apnea. He has more energy than any guy his age should have.

I'm glad to hear you're doing so much better with your cpap.  You seem to have a real good attitude about it.  Keep up the good work.
