Post Does this sound like OSA?
First of all, I have to say that you people on this board are amazingly helpful. It is much appreciated by us newbies. My doctor thinks I may have sleep apnea. I have a sleep study scheduled for Dec 1 (sure wish it were sooner!). I'm 55 years old, male and slightly overweight (5' 11" - 195) if I had the energy I'd lose the weight easily). I have been tired my ENTIRE adult life. I fight to keep from falling asleep in any meeting I attend, while driving more than an hour or watching any movie or TV show. I don't usually fall asleep (except for the movies and TV shows) but it is a real struggle to stay awake. Been that way as long as I can remember. Which reminds me, my memory has been getting much worse that past five years. I thought it was approaching old age (I'm fighting that losing battle, too!) but now I'm wondering if I might really have apnea. The worst part is that I've considered suicide to better prepare for my family as I'm fast reaching the point where I can no longer do my job. I have to work until at least 7PM (often much later) but I'm spent physically by 4. I'm so worthless I know their going to fire me. I would fire me. But if I really do have OSA I might just make it after all. It might surprise some people (not you on this board) but I keep wishing "let me have this disease." It might just save my life! Other symptoms: a headache upon waking that goes away in an hour or so. Extreme dry mouth upon waking. Does this sound like OSA to you?

Hi Dreamer,

There is certainly something wrong and your symptoms do tie in with OSA.

Contact the sleep clinic and get on a cancellation list. Be ready to go with a few hours notice. You will need to agitate a little. Squeekiest wheel gets the most oil.

It can't be pleasant going around in this haze. You need to know exaqtly what's wrong.

Keep us posted.

Daniel

Daniel,

Thanks for the reply. I didn't make it clear but I've spent thousands of dollars (both mine and my insurance co's) getting nearly every medical test known to man done. They all show me as healthy but no one ever mentioned OSA as a possiblilty. More than once I was sent off to see a psychiatrist.

Dreamer,

Obviously trying to deal with individual symptoms, rather than the root cause.

Best of luck.

Daniel
