Post Central Apnea not durring sleep but durring waking hours
I am not sure but i think my 8 year old may be dealing with Central Apnea.  I have not seem a doctor besides a visit to urgent care.  They could see nothing wrong phsycally but they had no answers for why she would breath shallow for a while then take a huge deep breath.  then repeat this over again.

I watch her sleep and she does not do this at all that i can tell.   When she wakes up it seems to start slowly and then by the end of the day into the evening i feel like she is doing it more.

She says nothing hurts and she is just breathing that way and cant help it.  I try not to make her self contious because she starts to do it more when she is aware that i am aware of it.

I have looked all over the net and this (Central Apnea) is what i thought best fit what is going on except it does seem to be goig on as she sleeps.

She does not loose color or get winded when she plays or gets excited. She just seems to be having different breathing patterns lately (the last few weeks).

I am wiating on our insurence to start up and then we will go have professionals look into it.

Does anyone have insoght on this happening all of a sudden and not durring sleep?

Hi there,

Has your daughter been checked for asthma?  My 7yo was just diagnosed with asthma last week, she did not have the typical asthma type symptoms...wheezing or coughing or things like that.  What she would do is take very shallow breaths and not get enough air to finish a sentence...she would breath after each word (but only sometimes...it drove me nuts).  No matter how hard she tried she could only take a shallow breath (better with asthma meds).

I hope this helps a little,

Susanne

No she hasn't been tested for that.  The only doctor that looked at her said that it would not be that.  but She only looked at her for about 15 min or less.

There is no wheezing just shallow or normal breath then open mouth and get a lot of air.  Only when awake.  Sleep seems to be normal.

Thanks for the insight.

I would take her to see a pulmonologist (or pediatric pulmonologist if there is such a thing.)

I agree.  There could be many reasons for breathing abnormalities during the day, and a pulmonologist could help you sort it out.

These symptoms do not appear to meet many of the criteria for Central sleep apnea.
