My husband has been experiencing severe fatigue and sleepiness for some time. He finally went to the doctor and he suspects sleep apnea. He had a consoltation with a sleep specialist and is to have a sleep test done. the problem is they cannot fit him in for 6 weeks. Are there any suggestions of anything he can do between now and then to lesson his symptoms. He is not overweight, or a drinker of alcohol but he does smoke and is trying to quit (no luck yet). It is very hard for him to make it though the work day and to wake up in the morning due to severe sleppiness. Smile

thanks for your input

6 weeks isnt a long wait, some say sleeping in a chair helps but I have doubts
ask them to hurry up with the results when the test is done

some cant get off to sleep with all the wires connected for the test and maybe consider some sleeping pills to help so he doesnt have to go back again for another attempt

Hi,

I think 6 weeks is quick. Phone the clinic and tell them to put your husband on a cancellation list. It will mean a few hours notice, if there is a cancellation, but worth it. Keep in telephone contact. The squeekiest wheel gets the most oil.

Keep working on quitting the cigs. NO food or drink for 2/3 hours before going to bed. Get him to stop driving, as he is a danger to himself and thousands of others. Some people have got a certain amount of relief by sleeping in a recliner (positional), at a 45 degree angle. It might help.

Finally, his doctor might consider prescribing Provigil, a stimulant used to counter Excessive Daytime Sleepiness. They sometimes will prescribe it on a short term basis, knowing that a sleep test is iminent.
