Post Side Sleeper
Reading some of the posts, I am curious about a couple of things....When I had the study, I was told to sleep on my back, however, if I had to, I could sleep on my side.  Well I had to sleep on my side.  While I was diagnosed moderate severity OSA, did I skew my results one way or another?

Also, my dr did not order the study with the CPAP, he just put me on one.  Is that customary?

Thx.

I am a side/tummy sleeper exclusively - I absolutely never sleep on my back.  I have had three sleep studies, and at my third I asked not to be titrated on my back.  For me, this resulted in a fixed pressure of 14 vs the 16 at second study and 18 at first study.  I still have apnea in all positions, but like many people, it is worse on my back.
So if you aren't a back sleeper at home, you can have good confidence in your sleep study resulting in a pressure adequate to meet your needs.

I can tell you this about my experience:  I've never been told a specific way to sleep during my studies (5 so far).  And during one, my apnea was considered moderate when supine (on my back) and almost non-existant when on my side.

Personally I think this makes perfect sence, as the soft tissue would surely be more of a factor on my back.

I doubt this helped, but it made me feel better   Confused

All I know is that in the two sleep studies I have had, I don't think I slept at all while being hooked up to the CPAP.  I fall asleep on my stomach, and rollover on my back while I sleep, but falling asleep on my back is impossible unless I am on a couch.

I could not even try to sleep on my side during the sleep studies because of all the equipment that was attached to me.  Maybe next time I'll ask for a sleep medication before going to the sleep study.
