Post Received Sleep Study Results - Need Help with Interpretation
As part of a pre-surgical requirement for my upcoming lap-band surgery, I had to have an overnight sleep study.  I just received the study results and my CPAP machine today.  I really could use some help in interpreting the following results.

Thank you in advance!  This forum is awesome!

Hi Barbara!
Well, the info in this report is a little lean, but it looks like your OSA is in the moderate category.  That low SaO2 is a little worrisome, and it looks like 9 cmH2O was selected as your CPAP level to keep your SaO2 at a safe level (a goodly amount above 90%).  Looks like you had a rough night there too, based on your sleep efficiency.
You know, a 10% weight loss cuts your OSA severity in half (generally speaking, some better, some not).  Given that your respiratory events were corrected at the relatively low level of 5 cmH2O, your upcoming weight loss might even get you to the point of dispensing with CPAP at some point.  Gotta keep an eye on that SaO2, tho, that'll probably be the determining factor.  Check back again.

Post Thanks for the help, sleepydave!
I figured that they raised the pressure to help with the low SaO2 level.  I have an appointment with my sleep specialist this coming Wednesday and I am also going to mention that after my last surgery (thyroidectomy) in 2003 they put me on O2 because my SaO2 was lower than what they would have liked.  I wonder if I am just a shallow breather and sleep just exacerbates it?

Anyway, thanks so much for taking the time to look at my results.  I'll keep you posted!

Barbara
