Post cpap day 1
Hi,

I don't think the DME had ever had a client who has as much fun playing with their cpap as Christina.  She says the hose looks like an elephant and smells like old cheese.  She was delighted to learn  how to take the water tank in and out.  She spent a lot of time giggling and trying the hose as a hair dryer and a way to make a tissue float.  They said the youngest child they had fitted prior to Chris was a very large 10yo.  I suppose they were expecting some trouble with Chris, but she was having a great time.  She did try on two masks and settled on the Fisher&Paykel flexifit.  Her machine is a Remstar Auto M series.  Chris has learned how to turn it on and off and turn on the ramp.  They said the ramp was set for 20 minutes and I asked for them to make it at least 30 so she would be more comfortable.  It is set for 40 right now.  It must have worked because she has had it on for over an hour and I have not heard anything from her.  She went right to sleep without a problem.  We will see how the rest of the night goes, but so far so good.

She will be seeing a ped pulmonologist.  I called one today who has not seen many apnea kids, but has a few in her practice.  So Chris will be seeing her, not the neuro for apnea.  If the neuro doesn't like it I have the name of a new neuro I can call. A friend told me to tell the neuro that "the pediatrian is concerned about the length of her hypopneas and wants her to see a pulmo."  I suppose I don't have to tell him that the ped is my neighbor across the street, not her actual dr.

Post All was well......then the cat ate the hose.....
Hi Y'all
Chris had a great time playing with the cpap yesterday.  Dancing  She had trouble keeping her mouth closed during the daytime.  At night she was quite happy to put on the cpap and go to sleep.  She slept for about 2 hours (in my bed) and woke up and took the mask off.  I explained that that was her mask and we needed to put it back on.  Then about 3 hours later she took the mask off again.....again I told her that it was her mask and we needed to put it back on.  This time she helped me get it back on her.  At 3:30am she had had enough and took it off again and asked if she could keep it off.  I said that was enough for the first night and let her go back to sleep.  This morning I looked at the record and her AHI was 2.8 and she had 42leaks/hr, then I looked at the hose (I know her mask was not leaking, it fits very well and is comfortable for Chris), and low and behold there were little teeth marks going around a part of the center of the tube.  Any ideas on how to fix the holes without purchasing a new hose.....perhaps duct tape????  I dont' want to tell my husband that the cat ate the hose. Embarassed ...bad for our favorite cat.

So the story continues.......I think I will make a hose cover and let her decorate it with glow in the dark fabric markers just for fun.....
