Post restless leg and apnea
Does anyone else have restless leg and apnea? I suffer from restless leg and therefore take medication, but I wake up so tired I want to cry. I have not been diagnosed with apnea but from what I have read, it would make sense. The doctor I saw said for me to exercise more. Is she kidding? I can't even wake up early anymore! Help me please.

Post RLS and OSA
Hi Mollie!
Sure, you can have both, easy.  If you think you have OSA based on the FAQs around here and elsewhere, by all means, get tested.
BTW, you could have PLMS too, that disrupt your sleep.  The treatment for PLMS is the same as RLS, but it may be that you need a medication adjustment.  That will show up in the sleep study as well.

Hi Mollie,

I have OSA and PLMD/RLS also.  Maybe it didn't show up until my second sleep study, but that is when they caught it.  I was the reverse of you, CPAP first and then meds. for PLMD.  Low iron levels exacerbate PLMD/RLS so make sure your doc. checks for adequate iron supplies and you are not anemic.

Post Kick Start
Hi Mollie
When reviewing the results of my sleep study with the RT, he pointed out that every time I had an event (apnea or hypotnia) my brain would trigger my leg to kick therefore waking me up to start bathing again.  I was kick starting myself all night long.  Once I got on the CPAP and the apneas stopped the kicking went away and I actually got some rest, much needed rest.  The tossing and turning, wadded up blankets, and the dread of having to get out of bed went away.  I would recommend that you get a sleep study.  Nothing ventured nothing gained.

I have both, too.  The RLS is the easiest one to treat, I just take a couple of neurotin before bed. but the apnea has been very difficult for me.  I could not tolerate CPAP or a dental device, the UPPP has a low success rate.

Post sleep apnea and rls
I too have both sleep apnea and RLS. First thing I did was to find a Dr. that understands RLS. Iwent to a dr. that was suppose to be a RLS DR!. Wrooooooong I knew  more about it than he did. So the next Dr. I saw I asked him if he knew about RLS. Now as far as I am concerned he is the best Dr. for RLS. Luck would have it he is also  a sleep apenea Dr. also so don't be afaid to ask a lot of questions like I did and you will find your RLS dr. I treat my RLS with Mirapex, a drug that Parkison's people use. I sure hope you find relef (sp). Trust me those Dr. are out there, you have to look for them.  Hey good luck !!!!!!!!!!!  Now to get my face mask to stp leaking.
