Post Trouble with CPAP
Need help with my CPAP -

I have been using my Fisher & Paykel HC 220 heat/humidified CPAP for about 2-years.  It works okay during the summer, but I have a lot of trouble in the fall/winter/spring (Boston, MA).

The humidity rains out in the hose and mask.  I use an insulated sleeve that I bought online and I wrap fleece around the tube, but still get rain out in the tube and in the mask itself.

So, basically my sinuses dry out and I choke on water for most of the winter.

Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried turning down the humidifier..I know I got rain out during my sleep test and they had it turned up to high. What is your set at? Usually I start it at 3 or 4 and if necessary go from there either up or down.

I think it is also better if your machine is lower then the bed....

Thank you for the replies.

I do keep my machine lower than the bed.  And I will start to better control rain out by lowering the Heat settings.  I usually have the heat set around 2 to 3.

Ron, by far the surest way (imho) to eliminate "rainout"  - condensation in the hose that drips water on your face or gurgles in the hose - is an Australian product... the sleepzone heated hose.  With the heated hose (they call it "heated cpap tube") you can keep your humidifier's heat setting up where it does best for you, and your room temperature down where you can sleep comfortably.  The heated hose comes with its own fleece cover and is used as your main air hose instead of the hose that came with your machine.

Works like a charm.  I've been using one for a year.

Thank you for the help.  I just went online and purchased a heated tube.  I will let you know how it works out.

I went to the website below.
