Post My sleep study results are in
Hi all.  I would like to have you folks look at my sleep study results.  My doc gave me the quick results but it went so fast and I am so tired I wouild appreciate you looking at it and giving my your comments"

Total recording time 8.1hrs
Sleep latency 33 min
REM latency 278 min
Sleep efficiency 60%

BASELINE
Time at baseline 215
Total sleep at Baseline 117.5
Wake (min) 97.5
S1 min 29.4% 34.5
S2 70.2%
Delta 0%
REM 0%

There is a sectioon called Pressure Effects on Sleep Parameters
Basicaly nothing much iuntil they got me at 13

At 13 the numbers were:
Total Time at level 180 Min
S1 13 min
S2 57.5 min
Delta 0 min
REM 69.5 min

Respiratory Event Summary

Apneas 80
Hypopneas 96

Total 179

RDI 89.9

He said that qualified me as severe

Oxygen Saturation

Baseline 94%

Lowest 85%

Is this enuf for you guys to give me a clue?

I went back to the hospital yesterday and met with a very nice lady who let me try on maske and try different machines.  I ended up picking a "swift nasal pillow" and a machine with cflex.  I fouldn it more comfortable to exhale with cflex on.  I was very happy with the chance to try on masks and then lady was so nice that when I fell asleep wearing the nasal pillow she let me sleep for an hour!

Any comments from the regulars is sincerely welcome.

From what I have read my condition is pretty bad and I can anticipate a major change of life once I get used to CPAP

Tom

Post Sleep Study
Hello Tom!
Yeah, the numbers look a little jumbled, this looks like a split-study, diagnostic part first half, CPAP second half.  Your sleep quality if the first half is awful.  Yeah, by any criteria that RDI is severe (was there an AHI, out of curiosity?)  You should get the details at what you did at CPAP 13, including the RDI/AHI, and if you you slept on your back and if there was REM sleep (I would think so, cause you did have a big chunk of REM in there).
That you had no REM in the diagnostic portion of the study suggests that you could be even a little worse that the numbers suggest.
So yes, CPAP will be a life-changing event.

Post Hi Dave
I was hoping you would have the time to check this out for me.  I am off to bed now but I will check if there was an ADI number.

""You should get the details at what you did at CPAP 13, including the RDI/AHI, and if you you slept on your back and if there was REM sleep (I would think so, cause you did have a big chunk of REM in there). ""

Yes...that is available.  Will you check back tomorrow?

Thanks so much for taking the time to look.

How is ADI derived?  Maybe some of the other numbers I didnt post hold the answer.  I got some numbers about apreas and hypopneas...maybe it's in there somewhere.

Thanks again my friend.

I cant wait to get my machine.  7 to 10 more days.  I have to run the insurance gauntlet.

Post What Means that Acronym?
Hi Tom!
AHI is the number of apneas and hypopneas per hour.
RDI is the number of ALL respiratory events per hour, apneas, hypopneas, snores, flow limitations, wife putting pillow over face, etc.
On CPAP, your ideal pressure shouold have an AHI (or RDI, for that matter) at least under 5.0.
It's on a table that looks like this:

Post Dave
Time at baseline 215
Total sleep time at baseline 117.5
Obstructive Apneas 80
Hypopneas 96

Total 176
TOTAL RDI  90.3
Obstructive Events RDI 89.9
OVERALL TOTAL RDI 89.9

Is it possible to derive a AHI insex value from those numbers?

Pressure Results

Pressure Level  7      Sleep Time 5 min         Apneas  1    Hypopneas 7   Overall RDI 84
Pressure Level  9      Sleep Time 14 min       Apneas  1    Hypopneas 17  Overall RDI 77
Pressure Level  11    Sleep Time 12.5 min    Apneas  0    Hypopneas 10   Overall RDI 48
Pressure Level  13    Sleep Time 140 min     Apneas  1    Hypopneas 7    Overall RDI 5.1

I see no AHI values but cant it be derived from the data here?

While on CPAP I was on my back the entire time.

Post You Can Use the RDI
Hi Tom!
We can effectively use the RDI instead of the AHI, it may be a little higher, but it still reflects actual events, so it may even be a little more accurate.
As you can see, the RDI is 5.1 on 13, so that's pretty much on target.  Maybe another 0.5 or 1.0 would knock off a few more respiratory events, but these pressures start to get a little uncomfortable this high, so it's kind of a trade off.  See how you do, then maybe you can get your doctor to tack another centimeter on later.  Certainly going from RDI 90.3 to 5.1 is fabulous.

Post Thanks Dave
I appreciate your looking at this.  I got some good news.  When I got home from work, my DME had alerady called!  One day after my RX was written by the doc!  Maybe I'll get my machine as early as Monday!  Maybe even tomorrow but I dont want to get my hopes up.  I have gone this long, a few more days will not matter much.

The DME told me that the cflex settings are set by them and cant be changed by the patient.  I had thought that ws adjustable.

Post CFlex
Hi Tom!
Hmmm, yeah, I'm pretty sure CFlex was a patient adjustable setting.  Might as well start at a setting of 3 anyway, in the meanwhile.
