 Gamers
In the topic on Computer Geeks games were mentioned. I know there has to be some gamers lurking around here somewhere. Now that the Next Gen Console wars are off and running what does every one think about them. I personally think Nintendo got it right and maybe the biggest winner. Let's face it the cost on MS Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 are higher than buying a new computer and their not nearly as fun. I think Nintendo with the lower price and fun may end up being the winner in the long run.

I play mostly first person shooters on PC platform, though I do love The Sims and casino games.
Here's a blast from the past; I used to have a Coleco Vision. Alas, that broke after they went out of business. I still have my Atari 5200, mint condition with optional trackball, still with the original box. The games I have for it are Defender, Missile Command, Pac Man, Star Trek, Star Raiders, and a couple of more I can't recall.

I play alot of card games and stategy games. I really don't have the time to play games right now. I hope though that is going to change. One reason I have been looking at the game consoles. I did get hooked on DOOM when it first came out. I think everyone played DOOM that had a PC.

I'm not a console gamer because you're locked into a one-trick pony. And when they go obsolete, you're typically out of luck. A computer with the same game playing horse power as an XBox 360 or PS3 will cost twice as much, but you can do lots more with it obviously.
I used to play most of the genres of games, but anymore I tend to gravitate towards sports games and single player/non-online RPGs (currently playing Neverwinter Nights 2).
I do also like MAME32 and playing the golden age arcade games like Ms. Pacman, Galaga, etc. I have an arcade style joystick for the PC that makes it pretty much like playing the real thing.

I've got the Atari Arcade games CD that came out. Boy talk about a blast. I did find an old Intelvision game console CD that had some great old games from that console that now play on the PC. You are right that a joystick is required to make the games play better.

I am into flight sims.... As soon as Microsoft Flight Simulator X came out, I bought it. Haven't loaded it yet, though.
I play various other games.... I have a modded XBox, a Playstation 2 (original one, not slim), a GameCube, a Nintendo DS, and a Gameboy SP (or I did until my 2yr old tried to wash it with milk...)
I have a lot of the old arcade game ROM's, and play them on my PC with MAME (Multi Arcade Machine Emulator). I also play some of the older pinball games using VPinMAME. My favorite is Scared Stiff...

I have been meaning to ask if anyone here braved the crowds for the PS3 or Wii launch? Also what game console, if you own one, do you have?

Anybody here got a Wii? I'm picking one up tomorrow and was hoping some one else here would have one. Anything you like or don't like about it?

I haven't tried one in person, but seeing a video on it I think I'd personally hate the weird two handed control interface. Just seems very awkward, though I understand what they're going for with the whole motion sensitive thing.

Nintendo has had to issue a safety warning on their new controller system. Some have been so wrapped up in a game that they have let go of the controller and it has hit the TV. Needless to say the new controller which is it's hot selling point is also something you need to watch how you handle it. This is going to be fun.

Well picked up my Wii a couple of weeks ago. I had to be on the road so I just got the chance to hook it up. Love the thing already. The bowling is just a ball on the Wii sports disk. Got to run across the river to Washington to do some shopping. Hopefully will get to try out the golf game tonight. Ninitendo did it right. This thing is just plain FUN.

I got around to upgrading my pc with a decent graphics card and dvd drive a few weeks ago, so my wife gave me Doom 3 for Christmas. Effects and graphics are great, the monsters are lot harder than they were in Doom and Doom 2. (Or maybe I'm just slower?) Unfortunately, other than Hell, all the levels look pretty much the same. This one has no double barrel shotgun either I don't think I'll bother with the expansion pack.

I wish they'd come out with a PC version of Dead Rising.
I have the expansion pack for Doom 3 but haven't played it yet. What video card did you buy? I currently have an older ATI Radeon 8500, which I know isn't good for Doom. I was checking into getting a new card, debating ATI vs. one of the GeForce cards. I'll probably stick with ATI. Can't decide which model, tho I'm leaning toward one of the X1950's.

Catnappin,
I put in a Radeon x1300 pro 256mb. That's really about the best card I could find for my system. My motherboard is about 6 months older than the PCI express graphics interface, so I had to use an AGP card. I am looking to get a new system in the next year. The Radeon 1950 should do about anything you want it. They're big bucks here in Canada. I got the x1300 for $110 CDN though. I finished Doom 3 the other night. That final boss is pretty tough.
