Post Sleep Study Results for Me - I'm New Today
I had to have a sleep study not because I complained of not getting sleep but because of another procedure I'm having.  I thought my not sleeping and waking up in the middle of the night and snoring was all related to a family death 3.5 years ago.  Evidently not.  I'm excited to know that I may be able to get some sleep.  My results are as follows:

Time in Bed  377 mins
Total Sleep 289 mins
Sleep Efficiency 76.6%
Sleep Onset 19 mins
WASO  69 mins
Sleep Period Time  354.5 mins
Sleep Maint. Efficiency 81.5%

Sleep Stage and %
Wake  23.3
Stage 1 16.9
Stage 2 58.8
SWS  13.6
REM  10.5
NREM 89.4
MVT 0

Arousal Analysis
Total 39  Index 8
Spontaneous 23 Index 4.7
Respiratory 16 Index 3.3
PLMS  0 Index 0
Micro Arousals (less that 3 seconds frequency change in EEG followed by EMG energy burst) 518  Index 107.5
Awakenings 16 Index 3.3

PLMS 0 Index 0
Singular Leg Movement 21 Index 4.3
Leg Mvts w/Respiratory Events 17 Index 3.5
Total Limb Movement 38 Index 7.8

So, I know what these are saying but what is the end result?  I'm going to another sleep tonight for the titration.

Thanks for your help -
Lynn

Post Need More
Hi Lynn:
There should be 2 more sets of data, Respiratory Events and Desaturations.  See if you can dig them up.  And when you say "not sleeping" and "waking up in the middle of the night", what exactly do you mean?  Was the sleep study pretty representative of how you sleep?
Write back.

Forgot that second page ...
Saturation Analysis
Baseline Sa02 91.2%
Mean SaO2 90.1%
Mini. 79.4%
Max. 95.5%
SA02 < 90 during TST 137.6 mins 47.6%
SA02< 90 during TIB 174.6 46.3%
Desaturation >= 4% during TST 43 times 8.9/hr
Desaturation >= 3% during TST 66 times 13.7/hr

Respiratory Indices
RDI 13.4
AHI 12.8
HI 1.2
AI 11.6
RI 0.6

OA 55
CA 1
MA 0
HYP 6
RERA 3

Apnea hypopnea index was 12.8 events /hoiuur
AHI REM sleep was 94.4 events / hour
Longest obstructive apenic was 24.5 secs
Resting saturation was 91.2%, Mean 91.1% and low was 79.4%

Is this enough data?
Sleep study occurred at night same hours I sleep.  I usually wake up in the middle of night - don't know why - just wake up.  I usually only get 4 hours of sleep because I go to bed late, wake up in middle of the night and get up at 7.  Thanks, Lynn

Hi Lynn!
That AHI at 12.8 would put you in the mild sleep apnea category, but the low desaturations (79.4%) moves into the moderate classification.  You obviously have severe REM-dependent OSA, and your REM% may be decreased because of it.
Even with that degree of OSA, it's hard to explain that degree of disturbance in your sleep architecture, so there may be another issue as well.  Waking up in the middle of the night for an extended period of time is quite a common phenomenon termed sleep maintenance insomnia.  If you don't see improvement after the CPAP, a consultation with a sleep specialist may be quite helpful.
Stay in touch.
