Post Diff between mouth pieces? Dental vs. Apnea Mouthpiece?
I'm seeing doc regarding my prognosis for mild sleep apnea.  One option may be a mouthpiece (?)  I wear a mouthpiece already (for about 10 years) which was provided by the dentist for "grinding teeth" when I sleep.   What is the difference between the mouth pieces used?

I'm curious!  If there is no real big difference, it might be an indication that I need a more effective treatment(?) like the CPAP(?).  Please let me know your thoughts?

THANKS!

Snore-Guard is one of the devices used for sleep apnea treatment. I used it first, and it worked great at first, then my symptoms not only returned, but worsened, so I ended up going for a CPAP.

The difference in the two devices you are questioning, is the mouth guard is just a cover for the teeth, so they don't get together to grind. The Snore-Guard is a mouth piece that has an attached "wedge-like" projectin on the bottom of the guard, and it fits behind the lower teeth, and as you relax going to sleep causes the lower jaw to jut slightly forward, thus opening the air passages of the throat.

If you have only mild sleep apnea then it might work great for you. If it is more severe, then it might be more of a waste of time and expense.

Good luck.

HUGE difference! The appliance for sleep apnea moves your bottom jaw forward, so that your airway is unobstructed. My appliance was made by a dehturist, not bought off the shelf at a drugstore. I think that makes a difference, too. Mine is for snoring & sleep apnea....both of which I suffer!
