Post Dentists experience with devices importance
Is a dentists experience doing sleep devices an important factor?
I would have to drive at least 4 hours  to get to dentists that are certified with sleep disorders.

If a lab makes the device and you can adjust it yourself couldnt any dentist take the impressions and fit it?

Would an experienced sleep apnea device dentist be able to look at you and tell if you were a likely to be a good or
bad canidate for the device?  Say regarding factors like a big tounge or whatnot that he/she can compare with past patients that it worked well or not well for.

Myself I am particularlly concerned about the teeth moving being a problem. When I used the Mirage Swift nasal pillow the preasure made my teeth misalligned when I woke up. The comfort lite 2 did not effect my teeth but aparently leaked to much!
Some people say the pillows push the tounge forward and it presses on the teeth to move them. I think a mask pressing on the teeth from the outside moves them also.

Ooops - the main question should find a more experienced dentist the better or is a local that is willing to try ok?

Thank You All,

Bob

When I first went for treatment, I tried the Snore-Guard. There was ONE dentist in my neighboring town that did them, and offered a "generic" version and a Custom one. The custom one cost more than the generic one (imagine that), but it stood the better chance of working. Most of the other dentists I knew, and inquired about it, didn't even know what I was talking about.  So, I would have to say that yes, it can make a difference.

My story goes on to say that after a few months, my symptoms not only returned, but returned with a vengence, and I then had to get a sleep study, after fighting months with insurance, and ended up going for the CPAP. My score came back OVER TWICE THE SEVERE LEVEL, and I got a split study after the first hour (Sleep Study and Titration in the one night).

If you want to try it, go for it, but monitor yourself, and if it doesn't work, or if the symptoms return, go for the CPAP. It has given me a life back.

Good luck.
