Post 6 yr old ?
My 6 yr old daughter stopped breathing Thursday Night for about 15 to 20 secs , when she finally did catch her breath it was very shallow. Shes on Seroquel to help her sleep @ night because she has nightmares really bad. Shes been on this med for 2 months now.Her ped dr said it sounded like she may have sleep apnea but shes gotta go see the ENT dr and do some test. she snores really bad and sometimes wets the bed and she wakes up all during the night. could the Seroquel have caused her to stop breathing like that? Any suggestions?

Angie2006,

You have a situation of concern. YES! Make the ENT appointment, since most pediatric OSA patients are primarily related to Tonsils and Adenoids. The presence or absence of enlarged tonsils or adenoids may be the difference in how she would be best treated. But, whether she needs the tonsils & adenoids removed, or needs a sleep study/cpap for treatment, can only be determined and ordered by the Dr. Get her an appointment and keep the appointment.  It is the only way to get it taken care of!

Painless,
She had her appointment with the ENT dr and he said that she had really bad allergies and that was what caused her to stop breathing. Gotta go back on the 5th of Oct to see if theres anything else since he gave her meds to clear that up. Thanks for the help!

Angie,

As an aside to her apnea, there has to be something better that she can take than Seroquel.  It is a strong anti-psychotic and can have some rare. but very serious side-effects.

Vicki,
The Seroquel is the only medicine that has helped her not have the nightmares. Shes been doing better too since the ENT put her on Zyrtec too ,havent had any more problems with her not breathing. Thanks for the sugestions!
