Post I Have a Question
I have been on cpap for 3 months now. When I first started it I could breath with the machine with no problems. Now, for the last 2 or 3 weeks, I have trouble breathing in and out when I first put it on....to the point that I have to make myself not take it off. It only feels like this for about 5 minutes, and then it gets really easy to breath...to the point that I wonder if the machine is working. Of course it is. Anyone have any idea why this is happening now? I use the ramp...it starts at 5. Should I start at a higher pressure? Any ideas anyone?

try skipping ramp altogether or if your machine allows, have ramp begin at a pressure closer to your fixed pressure.

Thanks Okie...I changed it to start at 6....I will try that tonight and if I still feel the same then I will turn off the ramp and try that.

Okie...still had trouble with breathing....I tried turning ramp off and starting with a straight pressure of 10 but found it to hard to get used to...so I will try to start the ramp at 7 or 8 tonight....

Post ramping
For the first 6 months of treatment I used the ramp feature on my CPAP machine (from 5 to 9). I stopped using the ramp feature about a year ago and will never go back. I prefer the full pressure. Now, if there are leaks with the seal of my mask (either full face or nasal puff, I use both) I sense them right away. With ramping, the leaks would sometimes only appear as the pressure increased. I found that annoying because it interfered with falling asleep.
