This is what the Progress Note that I got from medical records says about my sleep study.

Monitoring: Nasal pressure (snoring, apnea, and hypopnea), areterial oxygen saturation, body position, and body movement (to estimate sleep time) were monitored.

AHI = apnea + hypopnea index
Index time = monitoring time - movement time

Index time (min)                          287.6
AHI (events/hour)                        15.0
supine AHI (events/hour)              22.5
non-supine AHI (events/hour)        0.6
Supine time (%)                           65.8
Desaturations (#)                         63
ODI (desaturations per hour)         13.1
Low SaO2 (%)                              75.0
Mean SaO2 during monitoring (%)  93.8
SaO2 < 90% (minutes)                  15.7
SaO2 < 80% (minutes)                  0.8
SaO2 < 70% (minutes)                  0

I haven't had a follow up appointment with anyone yet, but I'm scheduled for September 1st to get an APAP.  I'll have a chance to ask questions then, but I don't really have any questions at the moment.  I'm sure that I should have questions, but they just seem to escape me.  Rolling Eyes  Anyone have any suggestions about things I should ask?  Just to give you guys a little more information, I have mild snoring (according to the study and my husband  Laughing ), I usually get about 4-5 hours a night sleep, and I rarely feel tired during the day.  The main reason it was suggested that I get checked for apnea was that I have small airways and am overweight.  The sleep study wasn't done in a sleep lab, but rather was a small machine that strapped across my chest and had an oxygen monitor going to my finger and nasal prongs going up my nose.  So, any suggestions on questions that I should have?

Hi,

I believe you had a 'limited sleep study' which is not as comprehensive as a full PSG but better than a pulse oximetry test.
From my limited knowledge you had 15 events per hour, which would put you in the mild/moderate category. You spent 65.8% of your sleep time on your back and (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and your events took place mostly during this time. Your blood oxygen saturation levels dropped to 75% which is not good, however the mean average was 93.8%.

I believe they will suggest loosing weight initially. You might ask if the apnoea events can be attributed to your amount of time asleep on your back. You need to ask about the low blood oxygen saturation levels.

Daniel, thank you for the information.  Do you happen to know if a limited sleep study is as accurate as a full PSG?  I realize it won't tell me if I have restless legs, but is the number of apneas fairly accurate with this method of testing?

The AHI should be fairly accurate, but there are a number of things not recorded, such as brain activity, eye movement and I'm not sure but I believe that the limited study does not cover the ongoing heart checks.

The full PSG reports on a large number of other functions, and if you suspect that your apnoea has been going on for a while it is required to determine possible damage to some organs.
