I'm sure this is a really silly question, but here goes...What do I wear during a sleep study? I have one coming up. Can I just wear sweat pants and a loose shirt? I'm embarrassed to wear my nightgown. Can I just wear the sweats to the place? All they told me was "bring something comfortable to sleep in." Should I wear a sports bra? I'm not sure where they will be attaching the wires, but I'm....shall we say..."well-endowed." They told me to bring "normal toiletries," but I don't know what that means. I'll be going home afterwards, and I'll take a shower, etc, when I get home, won't I? Or do I need to bring my shampoo and stuff?
I can't help it. I'm nervous about this, and the more I am prepared ahead of time, the easier I can deal with it. I don't want to do something embarrassing.
With all the goop they put in your hair/scalp you will want to shower there. The lab that I went to had private bathrooms with a shower, you should ask about it.
They told me nothing about what I should bring or expect. It turns out they had shampo , soap and even tooth paste, however I did not think to bring a tooth brush.... or a shaver, or deoderant, or a change of clothes.. ..
They did tell me to take a shower just before I came and that I could wash my hair but not use conditioner. I think it helsp all the sensors to stick to you.
If I were to do it again, and if I were you, I'd pack an overnight bag with all the essentials and bring it with me. Take something to read to, it can be a while before they get to you if they have others being wired up. My lab had a TV set in the room, that was nice.
I did think to bring a bottle of spring water, but it turned out they had a fully stocked refrigerator with free water, juice , milk, fruit.
They also had a continental breakfast in the morning, but I'm not sure most labs do that.

I too had questioned what to wear, since, well, I don't wear much. I was never offered a shower, I was cleaned off with warm wet towels, I looked like a train wreck afterwards -- I didn't care, I slept like a ROCK!

Hi Rocsfan
,
No question is a silly one. For both of my sleep studies I wore my nightgown and took my own pillow. Also being well endowed I had the same worries....but worry no more. I was perfectly comfortable with the nightgown. I would take whatever you'd be most comfortable sleeping in. Most sleep labs have a bathroom for you to shower in the morning and believe me, you'll want to. The hair isnt the prettiest looking thing once they unwire you. Both labs that I went to provided shampoo, soap, washcloth and towels. I even took my blow dryer and makeup! Think of it as an overnight hotel stay. Good luck to you and let us know how you make out !
Linda hit the nail on the head. Pack as if you were going to stay overnight at a hotel.
My sleep center provided a towel, washcloth, a hand towel and soap. However, I had to bring my shampoo, toothbrush, etc. I wish I had brought a hair dryer. Just think of it as a stay in a secure but cheap motel. (Trust me, you'll really want to shower the gel out of your hair before stepping outside. When I went in, I had intended to go home to shower. One quick glance in the mirror told me that wasn't an option!)
I wore short p.j.'s to the test. I would think that a nightgown might get tangled with the wires that are put on your legs. (But then again, not if you have a shorter nightgown.)
I am also well endowed and putting the wires around the body was not a problem, even without support.
Try to sleep as you normally would. Let us know how it goes.
