First question. I will be the first to approach this fine person who is qualified to help in this group. Does anyone ever get better that you have seen? When you feel better, does someone's system get used the CPAP and eventually need higher amounts? For example, do we become dependant on the machines? What have you seen as the best treatment of SOSA?
Thank you and I really appreciate you being in this room!

 Dear Sandra Lee
I will tried to answerd all yoru cuestions.
1.- Does anyone ever get better that you have seen?
R: Yes anyone how need a cpap and use it. it will get a benefit. the benefit will be greater as the sleep apnea is more severe. Like we see a patient who fall sleep in any situacion like driving. That patient can expect to fell awake since the first nigth of cpap use.
2.-When you feel better, does someone's system get used the CPAP and eventually need higher amounts?
Even is possible to use less cpap presure. becouse the soft tissue in the throat are sewll due to frecuent snoring, so once you star using the cpap. maybe you will need some 1 to 2 cm of presure less. But if you increase weigth or get older, you may need more presure. Some times afther monts of use the cpap you will get use to the presure and almost fell like your machine give less presure.
3.-do we become dependant on the machines?
We need to breath every day, and that machine help to do that. If you losso weithg to ypur normal weithg for your high you will need less presure or your doctor can change to one oral apliance. But only 10% of the population with sleep apnea losse wetihg. So the smart thing to do is use every nigth the cpap and star loosing weitgh
4.- What have you seen as the best treatment of SOSA?
The cpap is the best option. works since the first nihtg of use, any doctor will triend diferents cpap machine and diferent mask, becouse is the best option at the moment.
I hope i answer ypur cuestion, fell free to ask more if you need
alberto

Thank you so much for all your answers. I am having another study on Wednesday. I had a oxygen test throughout the night and my oxygen still went down to 89 even with the machine. But the doctor is very concerened that with the CPAP, I still was aroused 8-10 times and I do not remember these arousals. He want to switch me to Bi-Pap. He is also very concerned that I have this restless leg syndrome that is not being treated. Restless leg also causes apneas too correct?
One more question then I will leave you alone. What is your take with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? DO you think that majority of the patients, like me, with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome really suffer with OSA? I am a student and taking surveys to see what the medical profession thinks about this. Many years I have been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and doctors are now thinking that my SOSA was not diagnosed and this may be the reason I am so tired.
Thanks so very much for all your answers to these questions and the ones above!

FEEL FREE TO ASK AS MANY AS YOU NEED
HY sandra
1.- Restless leg also causes apneas too correct?
Restless leg sindrome dont cause sleep apnea. Cause that you awake in the nigth so often and then you feel tired in the day. Patients with sleep apnea can have both diseases, and some times the sleep apnea cause movement of the legs similar to restless leg syndrome. A full Polysomnography will tell you exactly wny the legs are moving.
2.- He want to switch me to Bi-Pap?
Yes that can be the solution. maybe the cpap is not fully helping you.
3.- majority of the patients, like me, with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome really suffer with OSA?
well is hard to be so sharp. I will say there is a relation.
If a patient have Chronic Fatugue Syndrome and sleep apnea, the fatigue syndrome will be more severe.
and Often patients with sleep apnea are diagnos with depresion, narcolepsy, chronic fatigue syndrome. The key is to know how long do you snore and stop breathing. If you have the simtomps maybe you have the sleep apnea.
Usually a patient how go to a sleep clinic have 2 or more years of sleep apnea before looking for profesional sleep consultation.
thanks for asking
sincerely alberto
I hope that these information help you

Thank you very much. That clarifies a lot for me. I think I have both. I had studies in the past and they were negative. I just received the diagnosis a few years ago and I believe some of that is due to my weight. I am almost always tired. I went down that road of a wrong diagnosis of Manic Depression and that messed me up and scared the heck of me and the competence of our medical field. I have been through the ringer with many incorrect diagnosis'. I also have severe back problems which are not allieviated either. That is another bag of worms, SI joint problems due to a fall.
DOes everyone have some form of sleep apnea? Do you think it may be overdianosed or under diagnosed?
I promise....that is all my questions?
Is it late night there and is it Winter? I bet it is always warm there!!!

 SEVERELY under diagnosed?
hy SANDRA LEE
1.- DOes everyone have some form of sleep apnea? Do you think it may be overdianosed or under diagnosed
30% of men and 10% of women snore, 9% of men and 4% of women have sleep apnea. so the problem is very often. When I go to univertisty like a general doctor the sleep medicine was very rare, due to the spensive of the sleep lab and very few doctors. In mexico we are only 20 sleep specialist. So you can imagine how severely under diahgnosed are the disease. But sleep medicne is growing very fast.
Here in tijuana star to warm up, i will say the wether is nice almost all the year, now is 2.55 pm
i really apreciate all your coments thanks
iam here to help every one
thanks
alberto

Dr. Servin,
I would like to welcome you to the forum and to say thank you for being here. You say there are only 20 sleep specialists in Mexico. With such a huge population, you must be run off your feet trying to keep up. That you also find time to contribute your expertise to us is nothing short of amazing.

Hola doctor Servin
Yo puedo practicar. Cuando yo tengo no mas problemas dddel sueno, Yo puedo ir a Mexico estudiar mas en espanol. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!VIVA MEXICO FIESTA FIESTA!!!!!!!!

Gracias
