Vicki, is it possible for you to PM maybe the night before to remind me? My short term memory stinks. :(

I just went to Discovery Health and they have "Lethal diet" listed for the 3 dates(4-9,10,16) instead of anything on OSA. This is too bad I really looked forward to seeing this show.

Mystery Diagnosis has several short segments within the hour. When I saw the piece on Harley, I was so excited I really don't remember what the others were about. Maybe one was the "lethal diet" piece. I'll try to get some clarification from Harley.

 Sleep Apnea while awake?
Hello everyone! Even though I've not been diagnosed yet, I'm sure I have sleep apnea. When I realized I had this condition, I did not have insurance. Now that I do have it, it specifically does NOT cover any type of "sleeping disorder, including sleep apnea." In the past 4-5 years, I've woken up gasping for air at least once a year. I've also had this experience during the time when I've been awake, but to a more serious extent. The first time, I was just laughing hyterically, starting coughing, then I found myself gasping for air.
Those around me thought I was having an asthma attack. This las time happened in March this year. I was just eating a couple of peanuts, starting coughing, then gasping for air again.
My grandkids were trying their hardest in doing the heimlich. I felt so bad for them, as they were terrified. I'm currently looking for another job that will have insurance and hopefully cover this condition because there is no way I could afford the tests & treatment for this.
Anyone out there ever experience anything like this? This has happened at least 5 times while I've been awake. It feels like something just went down the wrong way, but it has happened while I was not eating anything. I went to an ENT and told him that I felt like I has something stuck in my throat. He did several tests and said that there was nothing wrong.
Very frustating! Maria

 Mysteru Diahnosis - Harley Howard
Hi folks,
The "Lethal Diet" episode on Mystery Diagnosis is the episode that deals with My OSA. Why it's called Lethal Diet is anyone's guess!

Harley, I watched it last night! Nice piece! Did they gloss over the smaller symptoms for the meat and potatos stuff? The heart thing was intense! I have had the heart "flips" and so forth as well, but not bad enough to go to the ER (or maybe i should have but was too dumb to do so). Anyway, it was a very cool segment! You are a star in my household now! :)

FOr those of you who have missed it but want to catch it, it is the lethal diets episode. It is the last 15 minutes of the show. Just an FYI.

 Harley Howard - Mytery Diagnosis
Hi folks,
Hey Justcrash! A star in your home? WOW!
Many, many miles of filming that I hoped that would have made the episode never aired. It was two LONG days and nights of shooting with TONS of footage I was hoping that they would make the program 1/2 hour as they have for some other programs; but we got what we got, I guess.
I guess yu could say that they glossed over some of the smaller symptoms for the meat-n-potatos stuff. The many years of having a bad heart and being totally misdiagnosed was the most horrible experience in my life.
There is a potential PBS filming on OSA in the works (Maybe) that I've been asked to participate in, in May. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks to everyone for your comments on the MD Program. It is a blessing to be a part of this group!

HEY HARLEY! Yup, a star! I made my wife sit down and watch it. Afterwards I proudly said "That guy hangs in the same forum I do!"
I am going to try using that line at Bob Evans for a free cup of joe, I will let you know how it goes!

Hi Harley,
My whole family saw the episode. It was great! I think it helped my husband Mike and my 11-year-old daughter better understand about sleep apnea. I too was proud to say you and I are members of the same forum.
Mike thinks he saw you a few days ago in our town (Orinda - SF Bay area). Do you by chance live up here?

Hi Miss Rumphius!
Thank you for your kind words.
Nope, I don't live in the Bay Area. I live in Southern California near Anaheim; although I left my heart in Monterey California and hope one day to bring the rest of my body there with it!
Thank you again!

 Thank you Harley .....
From a newbie here .... thank you !!! I watched that episode - the first time it aired - and little bells started going off for me.
Several times I ended up in the ER - with heart rates skyrocketing ....... they could find nothing - put it off to anxiety ...... how sad !!!!!
After 5-1/2 years I am now going down the correct path .... I so hope many, many more will benefit from this episode.
I have a long way to go - but just KNOWING has been a blessing.
Thanks again .... blessings to you and yours... and continued good health wishes.
Nancy
