Post sleep study/treatment confusion
I am in need of help for my 13 yr old son. Has not slept through the night in approx 8-9 months, has gained 55 lbs. Had a sleep study done but don't understand all the percentages and things. Fam. pract. doc said RLS and primary snoring disorder, test results from clinic states diagnosis is RLS and PSD or Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome. Family doc has prescribed Klonopin 1mg every night, thus far is doing no good. He has been treated for psych. issues(bipolar,Adhd) and is currently on Abilify 30mg, Strattera 60mg and Nexium 60mg for acid reflux disorder, these meds are taken in the morning. All of this lack of sleep has caused excess daytime sleepiness, very hard to wake up in mornings and anxiety attacks(Atarax 10mg as needed).Missing a lot of school and self esteem is in the pits, lots of bouts of depression and very emotional. Any suggestions on where to turn next.

Post Let's Take A Look
Hi rikki:
Well, maybe we can at least take a peek at the OSA issues.  Do you have the sleep study results, especially the architecture graphs?  What options were given re: the UARS?

I think seeing the board-certified sleep specialist may also be in order.

I have the interpreters report, waiting for the graphs to be faxed to me today. What are UARS? No one is really explaining much to me about all this.(Quite frustrating)

Post UARS
Hi rikki:
UARS, Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome, is when you have bunches of arousals that are not due to hypopneas or apneas, but rather to more subtle events, like flow limitation (let's say snores, for arguement's sake).
