Post tender cheeks
I am on night 5 with my CPAP.  I have the Ultra Mirage mask.  I have to keep it pretty snug to prevent leaks and it is causing tender spots on my cheeks.  Will this get better?  Should I try another mask?  Other suggestions?

Most new users think the mask needs to be tighter than it does.  Actually the little thin clear skirt should inflate some, improving seal, but it can't if pulled down too tight. Leaks can also occur from the weight of the hose pulling against the mask, which can be managed by using a tie/clip or elastic band to support the hose between the bed and machine.

Many find the Activa nasal mask is comfortable, and seals with almost no pressure at all.

My personal favorite is the Breeze with nasal pillows. Great for side/tummy sleepers

Thank you!  I read your reply right before bed.  I used a strap and clip from the useles mask I got at my tritation to clip the hose to the top of my head straps.  I also let the skirt inflate before adjusting the straps.  Voila!  Much less pressure on the cheeks.  But..... I got marks on the bridge of my nose and right under my nose.  Sigh.  I'll play with it a bit more, and if I can't get it worked out I'll go see Mr. Archie at the medical supply and see what else I can try.

You will most likely do well with your ultra mirage, any mask takes a little practice to get "just right" . Don't forget you can also change the forehead pads angle, moving it closer to the forhead relieves nose bridge pressure.

If you do decide to look at other masks, www.resmed.com has videos on their site showing the proper fitting of the Swift nasal pillows...and the Activa nasal mask.....wathcing them will help you decide if either of these masks might be better for you.

As a side/tummy sleeper, I find the breeze nasal pillows is perfect for me, but also like both of the above.
